in order episode 1,4,2,5,3,6 Watching in this order helps make each one not spoil the other (watching episode 3 first will spoil episode 5) and it gives context to each episode without spoiling.

Obviously in order, IV, V, and then VI. There's not a lot of ways to order 3 movies, besides this is the only one that makes sense.

Well there's only 3 out so far so might as well just show them in order.

I've heard that someone made these 3 awful movies that used the Star Wars name, but as far as I can tell they're unrelated and not worth ever showing to anybody. Ever.

Above is the link to the Machete Order that people have been going on about. The gist of it has been explained in this thread already, but if you want a deeper understanding of the reasoning behind it, you may want to read the whole thing.

Why? I like the chronological order (chronological in terms of the star wars timeline)

I'd do it in an order I read about on a blog: 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. Best of both worlds, starts with the strong 4 and 5 and doesn't ruin the twist in the latter, treats the prequels as an extended flashback to show how 4 and 5 were set up and finishes with the final showdown between the Rebels and the Empire in 6. 1 can also be dropped if the episode isn't to your taste, since it adds very little to overall storyline, but it's among my favourites so I included it.
thats the perfect way to show the story as a whole

I like the order of 'A New Hope', 'Empire Strikes Back', prequel trilogy, 'Return of the Jedi' that Drew McWeenie used for showing his kids. You start with the films everyone started with, then at the big reveal, go back and show them how it all happened. That way, the stakes are (theoretically) higher for Return of the Jedi.

I'd show them the original trilogy, and try to talk them out of watching the prequels.

I'll bash the prequels all I want. They stank. To be fair, ep 1 was "okay" if you judge it as a popcorn sci-fi adventure and not as a SW film. And there was probably nothing that could've been done to match the expectations of legions of SW fans anyway.

Having said that, they easily could've been much better than they were. All three films were poorly written. And ep 2 & 3 were very poorly acted, most likely due to using green-screens for practically all scenes. Not to mention that cgi typically looks like crap outside of cartoons and SW films have been no exception.

Prequels are usually garbage because you already know how they're going to end. If filmmakers make the mistake of doing a prequel, they at least need to put more effort into making it good than they did with the original film. But the SW prequels felt like less effort was put into them than the original trilogy. I dunno if they actually put more or less effort into the prequels, and I don't care. The results say "less," so thats how I judge them.

While we're talking SW anyway, I'll say this about the coming new trilogy: if they use practical effects and restrict cgi to when its absolutely necessary if ever, it'll look much better than the prequels. Plus the actors will have an easier time emoting correctly if they've got something tangible to act within. And if the writers have anyone but a brown-nose or a close friend to reign-in their worst ideas, they'll hopefully have something on par with ep 4 or 5. Lacking such a voice of reason to counter Lucas was why ep 6 was a disappointing goof and why the prequels felt aimless and dumb.

Even George didn't start with the prequels so why the hell would anyone else want to? He knew the story didn't get good until A New Hope. He was right.

Oh! Machete Order, right? Yeah. I agree that although watching the original trilogy by itself is probably the best course of action, if you want to include the prequels, 4,5,2,3,6 is best.

just like any other series - in the order they were made. as in, the dates of release, so in this case original trilogy first. that most of the time is what makes most sense because all the prequel things are usually made afterwards and the originals are made without that in mind and your really better off learning it the way it came out instead.

Now, the interesting thing will be of how to watch LOTR and the hobbit once hobbit 3: the ending that was cut comes out.

Original trilogy, then don't bother. If you must, then the prequels.
Yeah, this. There's really no point in watching the prequels. They're aimed at a very different audience than the originals were.

Original Trilogy (Or JoJo's suggested order) first. The reveal in Empire Strikes Back is one of the more iconic moments in cinema history and as far as I'm concerned it's borderline criminal to ruin that reveal the way the prequels do. Let's be perfectly honest here, the prequels aren't made for people just getting into the series, they're designed as a massive 'winkwinknudgenudge'-fest for people who already know the original trilogy front to back.
