Damn I was a spoilt child, and come to think of it might of got sega mega drive at release as well.

Captcha: 5 dollar shake
Nah they cost a little more then that.

Edit: made a mistake, didnt get ps3 at release. But I did get the original xbox.

None, I like to give a console at least 6 months before I get it, that way there are actually some games on it that don't look exactly like they did in the previous generation.

Zero. Even if I had the money, I still wouldn't. I would want to wait for problems to surface, for games to be released, for everything to be ironed out first.

...Plus I sort of tend to be a bit backwards. I don't think I've had a 360 for more than, hmm... I don't really remember actually, but it felt like it was waaay after launch. I only got it because my house rabbits kept getting at the original Xbox controller cables, and it seemed easier to get a 360 than keep trying to track down replacements.
Of course, now I'm a little more alert to gaming news (well... A lot more alert, since I was about as alert as a dead badger back then) but that just means I have a reason to wait other than not knowing anything about it!

When I was a kid I got the NES GB & SNES close to launch.
As an adult I get consoles pretty late in the cycle. I actually got the Dreamcast for a great price, it was right when they announced it would no longer be supported. I didn't care, there were a ton of great games I could get cheap.
I didn't get the ps2 until San Andreas came out. By that time it was only $150 & I also had Burnout and Katamari games to play to death, for little money.

New poll idea: How many consoles have you owned by the Christmas of its launch?

That would get you a more definitive answer, I think. That's certainly what the console makers hope for.

None at all, surprisingly. The closest I have ever come to owning a console at launch was the N64 about half a year after its release. The jury is still out on whether I'm getting the PS4 at launch or not.

None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Reasons?

- There's generally some early teething problems that need to be ironed out.
- Launch titles usually suck.
- They release improved models later on.
- There are never enough good games to justify paying the early price rather than holding out for a price drop.

Two: PS2 and PS3. They were the ones that came out since I've been an adult and could therefore *afford* to buy them at launch.

I'm probably missing a few but here goes.

Atari 5600
Ninendo
Sega master system
Super Nintendo
Sega Genisis
Nintedo 64
Playstation
Turbo graphics
Commador 64 (Mail order monsters!!) Not sure if that counts as a console though.
Gameboy
Ps2
Xbox
Dreamcast (Phantasy star online FTW!!)
Jaguar (Alien Vs predators only good game)
gameboy advanced
DS
PsP
Xbox 360
Ps3
Wii
Gamecube (Easy to forget)

I got all of those within 3 months of release. I also had a TRS 80 fairly soon after release and an Apple II c...and have kept a gaming computer of one sort or another consistently.

There are probably a few I'm forgetting as well.

Never owned a console at launch and my first console was a SNES when I was little. Money is always the issue. I've saved quite a bit now though and I really hope I can still afford the PS4 at launch, it's $550 here in Australia from what I've seen.

One and only one. The Nintendo Gamecube.
Leading up to it, I was a diehard Nintendo fan, and it was the first console I could buy with my own money the moment I wanted it. By the time the next gen arrived, I was a few years wiser. Nowadays I give every console at least a year to see what direction it's going in.

Zero. I haven't owned a console since the PS2/ Dreamcast era, and I've never bought on launch. Hell, I've never bought a game the day it came out, nor have I ever pre-ordered one. I prefer waiting for a price drop for games, and my console days were during my school days, so I didn't buy consoles myself anyway.

From what I can think of:
Gamecube
Wii
Wii U
Gameboy Advance(the original and the SP)

I've never regretted a day one purchase, the few times I either waited in a long line, or others where I waltzed in and bought a game console always felt so satisfying.
