Pretty much been a pc-gamer my whole life until the current gen. I've got a PS3, Wii, and Wii U, but bought them all a while after launch, the Wii U quite recently in fact.

The only console I bought on launch was the 3DS, which I bought maybe a couple of weeks after it launched in europe. Never had a DS, so had tons of good stuff to play on it.

Will probably buy a PS4 on launch.

Okay...here's the breakdown.

{1} I owned and still own a probably-working Atari 2600 with a load of game cartridges.

{2} I owned an original bulky Gameboy, which the screen broke and I hadto get a new one.

{3} An original Sega Genesis came into our house courtesy my older brother.

{4} I saved up and bought an original Playstation. This was planned for, timed even. I didn't have many games for a while because of this.

{5} My sister received that wonderous item known as a Dreamcast. (I was on it often.)

{6} You know that I had an original PS2, because that one developed the software/hardware recognition fault where it wouldn't load the disc sometimes. (Bought a new one later, still big bulky.)

{7} Though the battery connection has developed a fault, I still have my original PSP, though I will have to replace it eventually.

Two and I regret it, not that I regret owning the consoles I just wish I had waited a while. I bought a 360 at launch and the games where really slow to arrive, Oblivion and Gears carried the post launch drought for a while but then my 360 blew up. As annoying as it was I did get it replaced with a week, called M$ on the Monday and a courier dropped off the returns packaging on the Tuesday morning. They collected it that afternoon, Friday morning I had a replacement 360. I was migrating to PC gaming at the time and by the launch of Halo 3 I was pretty much converted.

Got a Vita at launch and the games have been slow for that too, its slowly winding up though and there are a lot games for it. Not all new ones but I have been having a lot of fun with PSP games I missed due to never owning one, the PS1 and PS2 classics are fun for me as well as I dropped the PS2 for the XBox.

This gen both Microsoft and Sony along with the publishers seem to be supporting the 360 and PS3 despite the new gen on the horizon, big titles are still coming and some of the PS4 and Xbone games are coming out on the previous consoles also. Personally I see little reason to get either new console at launch.

In my life I've owned only two consoles (X360 and PS3), both more than a year after the release date.
And I don't plan to own another console, let alone buying it at release date.
