Poll: In your opinon, what is the worst aspect of online gaming?

What's the worst aspect of online gaming? The fact I suck at it . I don't care about people who are pricks - I play LoL plus most of the time I can easily out-manoeuvre most of them anyways or just report them; no what annoys me the most is getting face-rolled on Starcraft 2 EVERY TIME because, despite attempts by Blizzard, I swear everyone who plays SC2 has played the balls off the previous Starcraft game. The same goes for CoD games where I got Modern Warfare 2 but not the first one and got face-rolled everytime on multiplayer despite not being that bad at the game. Same thing for Halo, Gears of War etc.

P.S. I actually find the whiny gits on XBL funny - this gem is taken straight from on of their mouths after I actually was doing well for a change - 'Your mum's had a vasectomy', which I just laughed at and asked the guy if he knew what a vasectomy was XD.

Other people.

They're the reason why I cannot play any multiplayer FPS for more than a half an hour at once. Also the reason why I quit WoW (The amount of assholes there is just mind numbing) and the reason why doing instances or pvp in an MMO is very uninteresting for me.

So it's just stressful. Always when you're around random people, you're so tense of not making mistakes. If you do make one, you're afraid whether or not someone is going to rage all over you. Who cares right? Yeah, you shouldn't care, but it doesn't feel very good anyway.

I never play any games online that have a co-op option. Those games are strictly for playing with friends. The online monkeyhouse is just way too bad for anything that is designed to need half a brain.

And then people wonder how I'm having so much fun playing a random niche indie RPG <3.

It's "other people", period, and it's not even restricted to foul mouthed brats or griefers. When you multiplayer game, you're essentially putting yourself in a situation where the quality of your recreation is entirely dependent on the behavior of a pack of total strangers. Racist Bob in the party? There goes your fun. Know-it-all Tom up in your shit? There goes your fun. Guild Princess causing drama again? There goes your fun. People keep going afk to have a smoke or walk their cat or pinch a loaf? There goes your fun. Your opponent rage quits or spews insults, hacks or griefs or just generally acts like a prick because he's angry you're beating him/not putting up enough of a fight? There goes your fun. Player silently and methodically waxes you without the slightest bit of a contest occurring because they've been honing their skills for years and you just bought the game yesterday? There goes your fun. And on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on.

Now consider that this is a hobby that was originally primarily migrated towards by introverts who don't deal well with social situations to begin with and aren't used to having to cope with the pressures annoying people can put on your patience and time, and you have a recipe for near constant misery punctuated by occasional glimpses of wary enthusiasm.

So, the answer is "other people". Can't live with em, still illegal to kill them and stack their bodies in your root cellar like cordwood.

The last Online gaming I did was on Battlefield 2. The situations described above killed that game for me, and subsequently all online gaming in the future ever.

I would go for team killers and bad sportmanship. Most of those can be solved with a mute button, you shouldn'e have to but they are not also inherit to gaming. However people that refuse to gg or go easy on weaker teams if they are not playing competatively or are being dicks to their own team are ruining the fun for others. Games are for our entertainment and enjoyment so anybody that tries to remove that from other people is going to be the worst and that is why I'm going with teamkillers.

My main issue isn't with other players really. Whenever a server lags, a player lags, or I lag. That is the most annoying part of online gaming.

Team killers that can't be kicked and "hackers" would be the only other two that I can't just ignore.

Other people in general. People who aren't borderline Neanderthal seem to be the exception rather than the norm. I started playing Minecraft on public servers recently and I was surprised at how bad it is. It's not a competitive game, I expected people to be chilled. Instead I have the chat flooded with "OMG n00b! go away n00b I'll kill that n00b with my diamond sword lol n00b pwn hax hax!". Even better when someone uses a female name or skin. People go apeship hitting on them harder than on their tighs. It's the closest I've ever seen to the internet toilet.

Since i'm currently playing a mmo that requires team effort above all else i would say greedy people or idiots who defeat you just because their gear is 5 times better and act as if you have no skill because you die from 2 hits.

That pretty much sums up 99% of anything wrong on the internet. Usually when an Adult or child is making a scene on the mic or otherwise. It usually boils down to one of those two.

The GIFT theory is what annoys me the most about online gaming. Basically, it appears that when people play an FPS, their IQ drops a good fifty points. I also have a major issue with the fact nearly everyone who plays online FPS games are either drunken fratboys or screaming kiddies. Seriously THE GAMES ARE RATED 16+ AND OVER. Kiddies who sound, type and act as if they are ten at the outside should be banned by law. In fact, they ARE banned by law. But nobody does anything about them. You can't beat them either. Kill them fifty times in a row, they'll just scream incoherantly into the mic and accuse you of cheating. If they kill you ONCE, then suddenly they've become God Emperor of Creation and you are the single flaw in their divine plan that is about to be removed. Sure, there are good players on online FPS games. You just have to wade through such a massive ammount of sewage to find them that it isn't worth it.

Racist and Homophobic comments are bad, but having them coming out of a 10 year old with a voice so squeaky you would have thought that he were wearing a pair of jeans so tight that his balls popped out of his eyes and splattered on the screen from the presure while he wails and cries constantly after being killed for the um-teenth time because he genuenly sucks at the game then shouts at his mum for interupting his game by bringing him a sandwhich is ten times worse.
