Most game companies have been going nuts with DRM and used games. It's obvious why they are (money) but what do you think about the alternative? When Dragon Age Origins came out last year it did something I thought was amazing, buy it new and you get a free DLC (A pretty good one at that). If you buy it used you can ignore the DLC or buy it separately. I absolutely love incentive based tactics like this, and recently Bioware has been expanding their goals from DRM and used games to just getting people to play their games. Today Bioware announced that if enough people download the demo for the new dragon age they will give everyone free items.

What are your opinions when it comes developers using incentives like free DLC or a free upgrade to collectors edition to get what they want?

I agree because by punishing certain players then that company obtains the image of an evil dictator laughing whilst looking at an image of distraught gamers. Even though they are just trying to not lose money. I pre-ordered Dragon age 2 because of the bonuses that came with it (Even though I was going to buy it anyway).

That's about the worst poll I've ever seen.

It's like what do you prefer for breakfast?
1.Ceral
2.Bowl of razerblades and iron filings
3.I am asshole btw.

Of course, they should reward. you just want people to sign up for DA2 demo. Overall I don't care if I want a game I'll buy it. With DA1 I bought it 2 years later got it super cheap and with all the DLC, thanks to Steam Bioware still saw a decent chunk of that money.

Incentives, but more because of the fuss people kick up when they hear a game uses DRM.

I agree completely.

I got the "extra" DLC with DA:O and loved it. It was well worth it.

I didn't get the "extra" DLC with ME2 and.. I still loved it.

The experience is still a great one no matter which you choose and those who do pre-order or pick it up new on day 1 just get a little extra. I really don't see the problem with that approach and would much prefer it to the alternatives.

I don't agree with any of your three options.

I think you should punish the perpetrators of the crimes, not all the people that buy the game regularly (which is what some of the ridiculous DRM does).

I also don't think the "reward" is anything but a different kind of punishment. I hate first day DLC because I have two consoles (one at home and one at school) and it makes it annoying that part of my game is only attached to one console. I also hate the fact that my save file for Mass Effect with the DLC played, cannot be played if the DLC is not present.

And finally, I don't pirate. I find that it just devalues the games that I like becuase I can get everything.
