Not too long ago, I recently started dating a girl who happens to be black. Come to find out, many of my friends have a bit of a problem with that. It seems that they feel people should stay with people of their own race and that there should be no interracial relationships or bi-racial children. Now, I was very surprised since these were kids of 16-18 years old of several different races, but most of them were white. I myself am half white and half Mexican so I'm already a violation in their opinions. I found this very surprising that so many of my friends who I've known for years feel this way. I had no idea that so many people, even young people, feel that way. I figured it was mostly some older people.

So, I want to find out, how many people here also feel this way or some other way about interracial relationships and racial purity. Also, if you feel comfortable about it, please state your age, gender and race. If not, that's cool too.

THIS SHOULD NOT TURN INTO A RACE WAR. I cannot stress that enough.

Edit: I've told them that that makes them sound an awful lot like racists and I think they've been questioning themselves some. But yeah, I really don't think I need friends like that so I might remedy that soon.

I have no problem with inter-racial relationships, but I myself am not attracted to people of other races.

Well, I don't mind it.
I don't have any racial preference when selecting potential baby factories. (Kidding very much)
But seriously, if it is someone I love I don't care what race they are.

I feel that I should be able to have sex with whoever I want.

Yes, I'm not the least bit subtle, but at least I'm a good guy for it.

I take a broad view of love being the deciding force in any relationship. If you're attracted to someone the same race, go for it, someone of another race, go for it, same sex, different sex, same religion, different religion.

Nothing at all matters to me as long as the couple love each other and treat each other right.

I'm Hispanic, and I have never been with another Hispanic woman. Ever. The color of your skin is uncontrollable and should be ignored completely in all instances.

EDIT: I'm also mixed, so if I didn't approve of Interracial relationships I'd be quite the hypocrite.

Did you confront them with the idea that they're racist? That can change people's views VERY quickly.

My friend, as long as it remains in the species and out of the family then it's OK.

Also, no kids.

You know what you get with supposed pure races? You get inbreeding. Inbreeding results in big health problems. For the human race to survive as a healthy species, you need to mix races a bit.

Sounds to me like you need some new friends. These ones you've got currently are lacking certain qualities essential for a "friendship".

Leaving racism aside for a moment (cos we all know racism is for idiots, yeah?), just the fact that your friends are all up in your business trying to tell you right from wrong is a concern. It doesn't matter who's right and wrong in this scenario, what matters is that it's none of their business anyway. Real friends will just accept your choices in life even if they don't like it or understand it.

I don't see why it should be a problem. The gene pool has been stirred up for generations already.
Its nobody else's business anyway.

This is exactly what I was thinking, I'll talk to them about it one more time but if they still have issues and just can't let them go, then I'll just have t drop 'em.

It goes like this: it doesn't matter if you're black or white, straight or gay, or red or yellow, it all will most likely lead to divorce.
