Hell yes I love Iron Maiden, one of the biggest reasons I like metal music in the first place.
Out of curiosity, what metal bands would you say are better or at least more "highly rated" than they?Novs said:One of the most overrated metal bands ever.
Their alright, but their nothing special.
Not liking metal and rock music is one thing - that's an opinion. Stating it's "bland noise that all sounds the same" is not an opinion - that's flat out wrong, namely the part of it all sounding the same. One could easily list off a number of songs representing the wide varieties of styles which encompass the rock and metal genres, and any person who has functioning ears would be able to determine that those songs do not sound the same.DesiPrinceX09 said:It's just an opinion, no need to get defensive. Just like one mans trash is another mans treasure, one mans bland noise is another mans sweet melody. If you like rock and metal that's fine, I have many friends that do and I always remain as patient as I can when they start booming it. We have different backgrounds and different tastes; to me, that music is bland noise because I grew up listening to different kinds of music. I'm sorry if my opinion is a bit harsh, but I didn't go into detail about my dislike for the sake of people who like rock and metal.Novs said:I can respect your taste and dislike for metal and rock.DesiPrinceX09 said:Nope, don't like them. Then again I strongly dislike rock and metal music of all kinds, it's just bland noise that all sounds the same.
That being said....*readies flame shield*
But that doesn't mean you can call it bland noise that sounds all the same.

Yeah, most of those bands are technically superior to bands like maiden, but to me they often miss that charismatic thing that makes you want to track down their next concert.Novs said:Black Sabbath,Opeth,Cynic,Neurosis,Gorguts,Suffocation,Death,Meshuggah,Megadeth,Morbid Angel,Atheist,ISIS,Blut Aus Nord,Deathspell Omega,Celtic Frost,At The Gates.. i can go on...Thunderhorse31 said:<youtube=orIEI2mgHXo>

So in other words, my opinion is "flat out wrong" because you don't agree with it. According to your logic, stating that you don't like diet coke is an opinion but going a little more in depth by saying something like "diet coke tastes like medicine" is flat out wrong just because a person who likes diet coke disagrees. Rock and metal sounds like bland noise to me and therefore that is my opinion of it and saying that my opinion is "flat out wrong" is a wrong on your part. Sorry you don't like my opinion, but you have no right to tell me that it's wrong. As for all sounding the same: I meant the beats and such, it's just drums and guitar mostly and it all sounds very similar (is that a better word?). I just feel there's no rhythm and diversity in the music of rock and metal; obviously the voices will sound different depending on the artist but the beats don't sound much different. And once again, that is my opinion of it; doesn't make it correct.SonicKoala said:Not liking metal and rock music is one thing - that's an opinion. I wasn't talking about the "bland noise" part of your comment, your entitled to say that all you want - saying it all sounds the same is wrong, however, because that is an objective quality of the music you're talking about. It's similar to the example you provided, with "diet coke tastes like medicine" - you have gone beyond simply stating your opinion of the drink (ie. I like it/I don't like it) and are now making a comparison which is actually testable. I could take a sample of diet coke, and then take a sample of "medicine" (whatever that would be), and then through a simple taste test, effectively establish whether or not diet coke taste like "medicine".DesiPrinceX09 said:So in other words, my opinion is "flat out wrong" because you don't agree with it. As much as I love Maiden, and as much as I usually disagree with you over music, they do get a bit samey. Charisma is subjective.JochemDude said:Great band, I've seen them about nine times now. I was pondering how many on the Escapist are fansDuffeknol said:They aight. Fun live. Seen 'em twice. Bruce's vocals get on your nerves after an hour or so, though.
Also, not to be a dick, but how can you ponder on a question like that? They have a shitzillion fans...
Bought that the other week, it WAS AWESOME!Private Custard said:I saw a great rockumentary on them over Christmas. They had a camera crew follow them everywhere as they toured five continents. Flight 666 I think it was called.
Was a thoroughly awesome program. What really made it was that they had their own Boeing 757 in Iron Maiden livery......and Bruce Dickinson was the main pilot!
