Jeez, I gotta stop makin threads, but my mind is so active today. We've all played games with wonderful storylines, and they've had a surprise or two in there. But think of it this way, when you finish that game, it's pretty much over with, and as long as it isn't a sandbox game you've pretty much had all the fun you can have in your first time around, but of course you might be one of those read-the-last-page-in-a-new-book kind of people and like knowing what everyone doesn't or knowing the end, but if your like me the game can seem less dramatic, less addicting, and less fun.

I still love Bioshock even though I know its story inside and out. In fact it's because of the story that I like it as much as I do.
I can just play through/read/watch a story and enjoy it even though I know what's gonna happen, simply because I like watching it develop.

That said, Bioshock kinda fuses it's story into the game. I hate games that are FULL of cut-scenes.

Golden sun has a great story (Who saw the plot twist coming? I ask you.) and It remains one of my favorite games for a hand-held device

dude the experience of playing a game is very importatnt to me. so when i play a game with a good story it becomes truly immersive and the memories and experiences of that time in game, make the game truly worth it.

A good story is more or less a must for me. But I do not need to know the full extent of the story when i buy the game, just the direction of the story.

Like when i first played these games, this was the only thing i knew about them:

Mass Effect:
Evil robots threatens peace. A jedi A spectre is sent on secret mission to save the day. Includes hot alien chicks.

Bioshock:
Protagonist crashes in water with plane. Protagonist discovers underwater city. Underwater city is full of madmen. Protagonist has magic hands.

The Darkness:
Dude gets possessed by ancient evil. Kills lots of people.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines:
You become vampire. You discover everyone else is also vampire. You kick ass.

Half-Life(series):
Dude in orange suit. Crowbar. Monsters.

Knowing the story before hand isn't necessary, only that it's there once you play the game.

I love games with a good story like Zelda, Bioshock, Halo (yes I think it has a good story shut up) to name a few. I've re-played them a lot and even though I know what's going to happen it's still fun, plus there can be things that you missed first time through.

I love games with deep stories that make you think. If you haven't checked it out...and you got access to XBL arcade, totally check out BRAID. It is an amazing puzzle game crammed with philosophy. Even the demo has a lot of the story in it if you don't want to hand over 15$.

I've been debating going back and playing Twilight Princess again just to see how the story plays out and see if I can't get anything new out of it. But it all depends on the game. RPG's and Adventure games can be boring if the story is very linear but can also be more fun if you find new things/characters in a second playthrough.

These days a game has to have an intriguing story for me to go anywhere near it to be honest, unless it is a mainly multiplayer based game that I know some friends will play. If a game has a bad or mediocre story I just put it down half the time, some times regardless of gameplay or graphics unless it is something really exceptional.

A good story is critical for me with most games. Sure there are games that don't need stories but that is just a small % for me.

I love reading. As such, storyline in a game is very important to me. Although certain games don't really need a storyline as such. Gorefest FPS' can be excused, as it's all about mindless killing. It's a great way to get rid of stress and tension. If I want to really enjoy and be immersed within a game, it has to have a storyline. Even if it's not fantastic, a storyline will keep me hooked, as I want to know what happens at the end.

If the storyline is fantastic, then I'll pretty much live on the game until I'm finished. I generally prefer to have an open ending - where you're not entirely sure what has been resolved. I find the power of the imagination much more appealing than being told exactly what the outcome was.

Good stories are always good, but I enjoy having something to do after I finish a game. One of the Reasons I love Sandbox games over any other type.

I prefer a somewhat linear storyline(Like Mass Effect, somewhat open, but still a linear storyline, but it's so called open-ending) over a totally open world, like GTA for example.
