now im not talking about some ut styled flak cannon or some kind of gravity gun. Im talking about a small weapon you would keep in your house.
eg. handgun /(if totaly against guns a tazer or somthing gay)

would this be a good idea?
self defence?
or
tool for killing?

i say yes it is a good idea. someone breaks into your house felling all smug but is leaving with a bullet in there knee cap. exelent !

what do you think?

Okay first...

Learn to spell, for goodness sake, please.

Secondly, no, the general populace should not have access to guns baring a thorough BG Check and required training.

Seeing as how I'm single, and will be for the rest of my life, probably, there's nothing wrong with keeping a gun in the house, just so you're ready when the next Ed Gein pops up.

I am in favor of tighter gun control, however, so that guns don't wind up in the wrong hands.

I have to agree with Rebel...

If you are single or something, a gun is fine.
But if you have kids or grand-kids or something, I would say no...

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. I hate to trot this cliche out, but it is the simple truth.

Also, a law that isn't enforced isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Current gun laws, if actually followed, are more than sufficient.

No,

All a gun can do is destroy things. It's about as defensive as a drop kick, the most likely outcome from having a gun in a house is that one of the occupants will either shoot them self or someone else, either by accident or on purpose.
Either way all the possible outcomes that come with a gun are negative.

Self defence and for the times when u lose the key to the padlock on the shed, a good solid 9mm bullet would open that door in no time

What sort of household?

Single woman living alone in a bad neighborhood? Yeah, I'd want a gun, preferably a shotgun or a revolver. Something easy to use. Busy couple with a dozen kids they can't monitor effectively? Probably not. Family on a farm miles from any neighbors or police help? Might make sense to have some weapons around the place.

I wouldn't call it a "tool" unless you were planning to use it to drive nails or open beer cans, though.

True not everyone is a moron. But people get drunk, find out their lover is having an affair, have arguments about nothing, get into money troubles, have people's kids over, have accidents, get spooked by innocent strangers. some manage to do it all in one day, a gun is an awfully fast and convenient way to do a lot of damage.

Last I checked the odds of someone accidentally shooting one of their housemates compared to the chance of them shooting an invading criminal was somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 to 1.

Yes but only if you know how to use it properly. That means a gun safe and educating the kids in the house as to why messing with guns is not good. People who leave guns just lying around the house are asking for a tragedy to occur. Which it does every few days. Dumb stupid people.

Heck yes. Well, really it depends.

Example: My friend lives on a produce farm and has trouble with raccoons eat their crops. What does he (WE!) do? Blows their brains out. It's cheaper then trapping them, and actually safer since you don't have to handle a cage with a pissed raccoon (Those suckers can get big and mean). Piece of cake.

Another 'pro' example: If I lived in a bad part of town, I would have multiple locks on my door and a gun under by bed. Say what you want but I love my wife, I love my own health, and no body is stealing my stuff. I'm keeping all of those things safe.

That all beings said, I think ANYONE who owns a gun should go through proper training for the gun, and store it SAFELY in their house (If in their house at all). ESPECIALLY if there are children in the house. I don't own a gun, but I would like to take up target shooting (Rifle). My wife has made it clear that she doesn't want a gun in the house, and since I don't live in a rough neighborhood, I could store it at a local gun club/shooting range.

But I do agree that background checks would be fantastic. Also: No guns for people with any violent history. Got a record for robbing a store? Whoops, too bad: No gun for you.

That is because people are dumb and ignorant how how it use and store their weapons. I think an IQ test should be included in getting a gun licensee. I am dead serious.

So you expect the cops to protect you? When they show up ten minutes after shots are fired? When the situation is already over? The best you can expect out of the police is to catch the guy after the fact.

The military doesn't deal with simple crime. If a war comes home, they'll need all the militia they can get. An armed populace is also the only thing standing between your government and your rights. You do the math.

Quite frankly no, the gun is not a useful tool.
Lets take a look at the uses of a humble spade for a second.

The humble spade:
-diggin'
-Shovelin'
-pattin' down upraised dirt
-Whackin' Pinata
-hittin' things
-Plantin' into the ground and leaning against, just because it makes you look like someone who actually works for a living.
-Stavin' off the zombie apocolypse.
-Killin' people

The gun:
-Killin' People
-Killin' Animals
-Killin' Zombies, but no-where near as many as would be possible with a spade, unless you had infinite bullets or something (which you don't)
