the dlc issue:
I couldn't even find the DLC... nore did I in ANY WAY miss it!
I'm sorry to all those who had valve employees come round to their houses and hold guns to their heads, forcing them to buy the completely inconsequential trinkets... but I guess I was one of the lucky ones...
the "its a console port" issue:
the game had all the graphics options of any other PC game, it even has quick save/load (those were the days!), and access to the developers console...
it looked great. there is absolutely nothing that gave me any hint that there was even a console version... let alone that it was a console port...
the "its too short" issue:
no, no it isn't... not even including the co-op, its a perfectly acceptable length... and I just played portal 1 again, for the first time since it came out, doing all the radio transmission challenges as well... all in one sitting, finished it, and went "wow, I forgot how short this game is", because in contrast, portal 2 is much longer. it is, in fact, just about the right length, any longer and the narrative would have lost focus.
If you finished it in 4 hours, thats because you rushed through it... its paradoxical really, that you would rush through it as fast as possible and then complain about it not taking long enough...
points I would make:
the audio: it was brilliant! the ambiance and music! that was dynamic and changed depending on your actions, your progress in the puzzles, and the different contraptions you were using. it was a brilliant, seamless blend of sfx, music and ambiance.
it would be good if it included extras like the last one...
a true good ole PC game would include a level editor. extra l33t challenges ect.
steam:
if there is any genuine gripe to be had with the experience as with *any* game that uses steam... its STEAM!...
all of the theory, and ideas behind steam are brilliant and I wouldn't change anything... but just make it so the god damn thing WORKS!!! people have hundreds if not thousands of dollars tied up in the thing! all they want to do is get home from work, turn on their PC for their 1 hr of free time a night... and NOT have to wait HALF A ****ING HOUR just for the thing to start up!!!!!
"loading games library... forever..."
"this game is unavailable right now"
"sorry, this game automagically started a 1000terabyte update and now can't be played again until the update is finished"
*crash randomly when trying to launch a game*
honestly, the most enraging, evil, maniacal piece of software was not GLaDOS, no, steam is a FAR, FAR, FAR more formidable foe!!
oh, which brings me to my last little point... the game was too easy. maybe work a difficulty or hints system into the next one.
