Today my brother was playing Kirby Mass Attack, and like most of the games he plays, he rages and screams whenever he loses. This time he kicked over my electric guitar and my clock radio, breaking both. Now I gotta wait a week or two for the shop to fix my guitar, and I gotta look for a new clock radio because now I don't have an alarm clock and I need one because I have to get up early on weekdays for school.

So Escapists, do you accept apologies? Personally in this situation I wouldn't unless he helps me, which he won't.

I hate it when people apologize for things. I don't care if you do something wrong, just don't say you're sorry or any of that crap.

If he's not like 8-years-old or mentally disabled, the dick should be paying for it and sorting it out for you.

Apologies are worth as much as you want them to be.
If you want him to apologize, his apology will matter. If you don't care about words, like any other sane person that isn't trying to educate a child, you won't care for words.
Simple - have him pay a portion of your fees. The problem is trying to find the money. He can have his allowance cut, his toys sold or he can be your b*tch for a few weeks and do all of your chores, if you ever do anything in the house.

For little things, yes so long as it's sincere. For bigger things (such as you describe) I want a sincere apology and some form of reparations to make it up to me.

I don't really have many people apologize to me. If someone ever did apologize to me I would take that as a clue that they wanted to fix things up and still be friends or that they trying to mind fuck.

Overall, I want proof. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

An apology is alright, but it hardly fixes everything...especially if its a forced apology.

Depends on how many times they've done it before...

I like to think I'm forgiving, but there are times when an apology doesn't cut it.

I would ask your brother to cover the cost, or at least contribute. Since he is apparently refusing to do so, he's obviously not sorry and you're not obliged to forgive him.

Since he damaged your stuff, i would say no apology is complete without him paying to fix it, or at least most of it. Otherwise, not really.d

Apologies are usually good, a sincere apology usually quells my urges to smash their face into the nearest solid object. If they've caused damage to my stuff though a good apology will also come with the cash to get it fixed.

In your situation at least I wouldn't accept an apology unless he paid for what he broke.
Also tell him he shouldn't abuse your things when he's upset and that he shouldn't take a game so damn seriously. That kid needs to learn to control his temper, if he's going to act like that he shouldn't play the game at all.

I agree with this. Sure I'd accept an apology, but when people repeat the same things over and over after apologising, you get sick of it...

I rarely ever apologise, mostly because if I've done something really wrong, I'd do more then just a "whoops, sorry." That and I really hate giving apologies. I always think the other person won't accept it, then I'd end up looking like an ass.

Anywho! OT: What most people are saying. Get him to put some money towards it. D:<

Depends.
If it's something small like a mistake than it's ok.
However if it's something more of a personal thing like breaking my stuff, words alone may not calm me done (if is apology by repairing or give me money to buy a new one than that is acceptable).
The only time I wouldn't accept apologies are people from my past (High School) and yes I can hold a grude that long unless maybe they had fully changed.

Sometimes, but not always. In that situation, instead of an apology, he needs to fork over some cash to fix your gear. I'm overly protection of my gear, so a simple apology wouldn't be enough for breaking my damn guitar.

Only if the apologetic person really means it and wants to help undo what they have done wrong. If it seems like they're just saying "Whoops, sorry." then they shouldn't be forgiven.

I always accept apologies but that doesn't mean to say that the issue is resolved. In your situation then he should give you some money for the damage he did as well as an apology. It doesn't just stop at an apology.
