The two Im playing right now are Star trek online and Neverwinter, both made and run by Cyptic (who made city of heros), both free to play, and both with IMO fair business models that are pretty similar. My biggest issues with both games is there isnt all that much end game content. You might also check out Raiderz which I sometimes think of as a Monster hunter MMO in a more interesting world and is also free to play. IMO it has the best spatial combat system of any MMO Ive played thus far. What I like most about this game is its very dark souls in the sense that if you're skilled enough you can solo kill bosses and even create challenges for yourself and friends

If you want more hotkey based combat theres Rift and The old republic. You can play both free but TOR has rediculous restrictions on free players to the point that you actually cant do end game stuff. Rift, I got to the upper 30s before it just got boring. Very uninteresting world and its hotkey based combat which I dont enjoy all that much anymore.

An honorable mention also needs to go to Terra online which, like raiderz and neverwinter, has a spatial combat system. I really need to try it again I got to 28 or so before I put the game down to try other games. At this time I can not give an opinion based on the games business model or how they treat free players though. I just dont feel I got far enough to give an informed opinion

Another honorable mention has to go to the Secret world. If you like a modern game that relies on your brain then its pretty cool. However it is not free to play, its a one time purchase like guild wars and I dont believe they have a trial system but I could be wrong.

As a side note I didnt really care for DC universe because I felt like my character was a side kick to other well known heros.
