A while ago, I went on the IGN webpage to find, to my surprise, that a trailer for Deadpool was their headliner. I watched the trailer, thought Deadpool would be cool, and got my hopes up. Now that it's out, I once again clicked on IGN webpage and read the review. Sadly, it only got an 6.0. However, all of what I expected to be there ( Offbeat humor and hilarity, awesome character) are there, is that really enough to justify purchasing the game? Has anyone actually bought the game? If so, is the writing worth slogging through repetitive beat-em-up gameplay for?

Watch that and decide for yourself. It shows quite a bit of gameplay and TB explains quite a bit of the game.

Well I saw Totalbiscuits video and there were some hilarious parts. The character Codexes were awesome. Radio's is just the Who the fuck is that? it is Radio song. I think his name is Radio I dunno I don't read Deadpool.

Also I thought the gameplay looked pretty good. Though TB did recommend to wait till it was on sale because it is short and has no real longevity.

The codexes do look pretty sweet. I think I will wait until it's on sale, or maybe I'll just borrow it off one of my friends. Thanks for the input, guys.

Where's the 'not touching it with a ten foot pole' option?

Saw the trailer. Was amazed that I was expected to pay money for it.

Actually, now that it's out, I should watch some nice, unedited, actual gameplay footage.

...

Oh look, dull gameplay with really crappy animation and incredibly forgettable visuals. That explains why there was no gameplay in the official trailers.

It's a bit funnier than I expected, but that's not going to get me through a whole game and it's the kind of humour that gets old real fast.

Well, I think that I would mostly buy this sort of game for the character, and the completely wacky, off the wall writing. That sort of style is exactly why I enjoy Douglas Adams' (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) ridiculously zany storytelling.
Honestly, if I find the game funny enough, I'd be willing to play through absolutely horrendous gameplay.

I'll buy it when it's $20 or $25. After FC3: Blood Dragon and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, both of which are $15, I can't justify spending $40 on a game like this. But it's Deadpool so I'm willing to pay more than $15.

Deadpool is one of my favorite superheroes, despite my usual lack of interest in comic books (except the movies, of course). I think it's because of the way he breaks the fourth wall and plays the role of antihero so well.

From the looks of the game, I'd rather watch a Deadpool adult-cartoon.

I'm having a blast playing it, myself.

It's made me laugh more than probably any other game I've played, and the combat is really fun, at least on the PC version.

It's immature and knows it, and plays it really well in my opinion. The humor is a mixture of crazy, wacky random humor; crude toilet humor; and legitimately clever meta-humor about being a game, how game stories are told, and the problems developers face.

And while the combat might not be as smooth as something like Devil May Cry, it's still really satisfying. It's easy to chain combos and mix-and-match melee with ranged attacks, and it just feels like there's a lot of weight and power behind the weapons.

Anyone else ? You ( apparently ) haven't played it so how are you dissapointed? I think you asked the question in the title wrong , you asked if anyone else is dissapointed , which is going to attract those who are dissapointed more than those that liked it . Just asking if the game is any good ( in the title ) would have done it .

OT: the game is halarious . Of course this depends on the person playing . While the gameplay isn't as polished as i'd like , it's still pretty good . I would recommend buying this game at half price . Definately not a day one buy . The game is pretty short .

Got the game Tuesday with a $10 off coupon I had from my PowerRewards. In my opinion it's worth the money. I've played for 22 hours on the hardest difficulty (which is really brutal without the upgrades)

EDIT: Crap didn't mean to click post.

Yeah the gameplay is simplistic and its definately going for style of substance, but I found it a fun little game that I glad I go.

Considering it's retailing for $90 here, but I can get it for $30 USD on Steam (which I consider still too high, this is coming from a fan) I think I will wait until it's cheaper. That said, when I do buy it, it will be for the writing, I love Deadpool and Cable.

And I did want to add something I just thought of.

A 6 is still considered above-average. I know we are all spoiled by every game having to get an 9+ in order to be considered "good" but not every game has to be the pinnacle of gaming in order to be worth playing.

It's probably not bad if you could get it cheap, say 20 bucks or so.
This is far from a 60 dollar game for my own tastes though.

At first glance I thought I might be interested. Then I saw how it played and it feels like every other pc game where your character is stuck to the center of the screen. The animation is ok, I just can't stand feeling stuck, or like a "tank" as it were. He's supposed to be agile yes??

To answer the question, I buy all games for the gameplay. If the story is good, that's a bonus. I really don't understand the modern trend of buying games for story.

Should we expect good stories in 2013? Absolutely. Should this game have a good story - well considering the way Batman blew up (Arkham games) there should be no excuse for crap stories with comic book characters anymore. But it seems like the industry could care less what we want or think apparently.

Actually I think theres two ways to take the game. By itself its crude, chauvinistic, ultra-violent, and arguably sexist but then again so is its main character in the comics he appears.

The other way to take it is as a self aware parody of itself making you look at everything your doing and basicly saying "look at how awful your actions are!" or "look at how silly this all is!"

I don't know what the developers were going for and because I havnt beaten the game yet I cant say for sure if one way of looking at it is better or worse. The only thing I can say is the gameplay is pretty good and Ive laughed a lot more then Ive cringed

So far I'm a little disappointed. I think the game has value, but the value isn't 40.00. Everything is about as mediocre as it gets. The combat is whittled down to 2 choices (with 3 sub choices each).

A Melee
1)Katana Medium Speed, Medium Strength. Expect to hit 3 times then teleport.
2)Sai's Fast Speed, Low Strength. Expect to hit 5 times then teleport.
3)Hammers Slow Speed, High Strength. Expect to hit 1-2 times then teleport.

B Guns
1)Pistols Mid Speed, Mid Damage
2)SMG Fast Speed, Low Damage
3)Pulse Rifle Slow Speed, High Damage

With the exception on how fast you wish to shoot or attack the combat is exactly the same through out the game. The writing isn't anything to write home about, but is better than the gameplay. Though I haven't finished the game yet, I don't feel that Deadpool is very Deadpool-ish.

I would wait for it to hit 10-20 bucks in a month and buy it then. It is worth $10 for a playthrough.
