So if I tell you faster than light travel is impossible, I'm being ignorant?
Faster how? Linearly, probably, but with some "extra dimensional bending space and time" bullshit, I'm sure you could beat a photon in a footrace. You can win any race by cheating. It just depends on how Hitchhiker's Galaxy you're willing to get.

This is a semi-serious post that relies on science fiction physics.

Actually, I heard there were some calculations done that showed it would be possible, with enough energy, to warp space in such a way that you would move between point A and point B faster than a photon, even though relative to the space you're traveling through you'd be going subluminal velocities. The energy requirements would be nothing short of astronomical though. Something like turning the entire mass of Jupiter into energy.

Possible, Probable, who knows. As some of the more learned posters have written it may be quite difficult to do, and should we or should we not do it bears some thought. My question is why create a computer/robot that is self or will be come self aware, when we are "building" soon to be self aware things by the millions every year... Babies.

It's a great topic to discuss, but if I may, what gives us the right to build something like that. For those who say the "Terminator" effect would not happen I give you this, at any time part of or almost all of the human race has spilt blood over the "I'm better than you, you have what I want, your view is wrong" reasoning, if we were to 'copy paste' self awareness from humans to something else eventually would this new type of humanoid not decide 'I'm better than you etc'

Yes. It would just take a really, really, really long time to code.
As to that i agree.. but think of the profits Red bull would get from the programmers !!!
