Bioshock 2 didn't scare me at all. Bioshock 1 scared me three times. Once when you pick up the shotgun, once when you go to that spot and turn around and there's a dude behind you, and once when you first see Steinman.

Dentist, morgue, room full of clay statues and that one splicer sitting in the chair facing the wall are the jumpy moments I most distinctly recall from Bioshock 1. I haven't played Bioshock 2, though.

I was much more scared of STALKER than Bioshock, in all honesty. The bloodsuckers under the Agroprom institute in Shadow of Chernobyl. Mother of god.

Most of the opinions I'm reading on here seem to conflict with mine,(either that or they are just stupid) so I'll give you my two cents.

The first Bioshock WAS a survival horror game, although the most scary part of the entire game was the first level, by far. The rest of the game kept it's survival horror aesthetic, although less so than the first level. The game however, did have it's moments. If you are a veteran to horror games, you will find nothing scary about this one, but if you are new to them, you will find this game a truly horrifying experience.

Bioshock 2 scrapped the idea of horror entirely. The game's main focus was no longer the horrifying unknown of the underwater city of Rapture, but the strange familiarity of the city of the protagonists's past life.

So to fully answer your question, the first Bioshock WAS a scary game, just not very scary, and the second Bioshock was not scary at all.

I have never been scared by games, movies, or books. I just find it impossible to be scared by something that can't do anything to me in real life. The closest I ever got to scared in Bioshock 1 was merely mild surprise, because honestly I was expecting it.

It's a part early in the game where you enter the room with all the mist in the air (looks like a dentist work station or an operating room), and then everything kinda whites out for a few seconds. After a short time you can see again, and one of the splicers is right behind you, of course this isn't scary when a single wrench to the face knocks his face off, but still.

The only truly panic moment I had was the freaking splicer that appears behind you in the first one. They aren't really scary, though, no. I didn't even blink when I picked up the shotgun and all the lights went out.

I haven't played the second game, but I was never actually scared in the first one. Sure, a few splicers surprised me here and there, but I wouldn't count that as getting scared.

ITS R NOT IS LOLOLOL

Some parts are creepy, and both games have some jump scars, and those are pretty good at setting the mood, but the games aren't very scary overall.

Bioshock? Scary? Hardly. After the first 15-30 minutes of gameplay, you'll fit right in to the environment.

Bioshock 2 was even less unnerving, partially because they probably ran out of ideas, and partially because you're inside a walking tank the whole way through.

You want scary? Go play Silent Hill 3.

There was a few parts in the first one that I can say made me jump or just then general tone made me kinda unnerved (that nagging feeling I believe is what they call it) Didn't feel at all scared in the second one

I would call them suspenseful more than I would call them scary. Atmospheric would be another word to describe them

The first 10 minutes of the first one can be scary, but the rest of the game is fine.

Bioshock 1 begins as creepy. Then you get a hand that shoots lightning and a shotgun. Scare factor drops to zero.
Bioshock 2 was never scary, because you play a robot with a drill-arm. Enough said.

They're not scary, a little creepy with the tone and scenery but not scary, only time you can really get scared is if you're just walking along and out of nowhere you get attacked, it happened to me once I heard nothing then got attacked I was like holy shit WTF was that?

Its just i never played it and it sounds really good of a game and i don't like being scared so it is really THAT scary. of a game.

Please specify why it is scary.

Note:never ever played a horror game before closest thing i have got to a Horror game is Nazi Zombies which doesn't scare me [and its properly not supposed too]
Nope, if you want a scary game play it's spiritual predecessor System Shock 2, which is far better in it's gameplay, story, plot twist and scary level.

only played one myself, but i'd say is more atmospheric and tense than scary. the first bit with the spider splicer was terrifying, though after that you just keep respawning in the tubes without penalty, so takes all the 'fear' out of it.

Its startling not scary. The startling bit wears off quickly.

Still both of them are great games.
