So I've recently been weirdly interested in finally getting around to play Bioshock for the first time.

But my question is...what with the "twist ending that flips the very nature of narrative gameplay on its head" now being in the same league as "it was his sled", is it really worth playing the game without the big payoff of that mindfuck and revolutionary ending twist?

EDIT: Do I even need to ask if Bioshock 2 is worth it?

I'd say yes. I knew what was coming (OXM Magazine, you are forever a bunch of twats for that spoiler.) but the atmosphere made up for it, in my eyes.

Absolutely. The gameplay is still solid as a rock. Just make sure you turn off vita-chambers and the quest arrow.

I loved it. Played it 6 times and still can't get enough of it. But that's me. Tastes will vary and many may say to avoid that one.

Sure. Its still a fun game, even if you already know the plot twist. Plus, if you are more interested in story stuff its got some great story characters in the audio logs and is one of the better examples of building a believably realistic-yet-crazy setting in recent memory.

Yeah, I'd say that it is. Even with knowing the twist at the end, the story will still really hook you, and its worth the time, anytime.

Yes play it. It is one of the best worlds created in games, really fun for that reason alone.

I'd say yes. Atmosphere and dialogue is great. Well, aside from that thing where ADAM makes people go crazy and the first of these mental illnesses appears to be Tourette's without exception.

Also, plenty of people complain about the gameplay, but personally, I found it to be quite fun.

whats with people's concepts of dated getting more and more picky? bioshock is a great game in its own right, and citizen kane is a great movie in its own right; it will never be as awesome as the first time you played it, but its still more fun than half the FPSs out now and kane is still better than half the trash out now.

I played through it 3 times. It's not as good as playing it for the first time. That magic is forever gone (same with every other game), but it's still an amazing game and I love it with all of my heart.

Here's the skinny, chief!

Both games are great. Bioshock one has a great story with good gameplay. Bioshock 2 has a good story with great gameplay.

They're cheap so check 'em out!

I like Bioshock 2. It's fun.

But I got the ending to Bioshock ruined for me and I have absolutely no interest in playing it anymore.

Yeah, I've played through it multiple times and love it more still. BioShock 2 is pretty fun, but it is lacking compared to the first. The hacking, weapon/plasmid set up (one in each hand) and researching system is better in BioShock 2, but BioShock is way better.

I love Bioshcok 1. Played through it 4 times at least and the atmosphere is still faultless. I dont think knowing the twist changes much as the parts of the story that I really love are found in the audio recordings and atmosphere.

I do really REALLY wish there was a way to cut out all the pipe-dream hacking in the original upon replay though. There was just so much of it.

Bioshock 2 did indeed raise the gameplay standard but I could not have been more disappointed with the story and soul of the game. It really was an example of a pointless sequel. Here's hoping the original creators can give the spiritual successor Bioshock: Infinite some new vitality.

Bioshock 1 is only okay in terms of gameplay, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it. The final act is kinda lame too.

Fuck what anyone says about Bioshock 2; it's awesome. The gameplay has been significantly improved, plasmids and weapons have been balanced a lot better, the defensive style of play is more fun, and more cerebral, and the story has a lot more heart. It doesn't have that big ol' revelation, but I cared a lot more about the characters in 2. And there's no unnecessary final boss.

It's an FPS so if you want to play another FPS you can do worse. It has some pretty good graphics and set pieces. The twist isn't all that great. One of the best parts is Fort Frolic which has little to do with twist. But, if you get the game, when you get past the twist, just stop playing and invent your own ending. Like, rocks fall, everyone dies. Will improve your experience of the game by a fair amount.

Bioshock is still awesome, even knowing the twist. I was late to play it, and I already new basically all of the twists but I still consider it one of my favorite games. Bioshock 2 is ok, the fact that it is shoehorned in as a sequel detracts from it, but I still found it fun.
