I bought my 360 when the ps3 was extortionately priced. Its more reasonable now but I aready have a 360 with a games library, a full contact list on XBL and a good games library.

I enjoy the titles on XBLA, I like the people I meet on line, there is a good line up of games and I don't see a significant difference in graphics to the ps3. Im sure this will change as the consoles grow older and developers start squeezing all the power from the consoles.

I don't hate the PS3, its tech, why would someone hate it? I just went for a more affordable option. I've not had any untoward problems with the hardware bar a scratched disc when my partners nephew knocked it over while running. A perfect circle scratched into my COD WAW disc. You do expect something to happen when you knock it over.

My friend I play online with all the time bought a ps3 for the bluray. He went missing for about a week on killzone 2. Now hes back on XBL most nights. He also buys all the multi platform titles on 360 for the online play.

None of the options on your poll match my feelings. I see no reason to not own a 360, the same as there is no reason not to own a ps3. You just make a choice depending on individual circumstance and preference.

Whats keeping the 360 alive is the fact that it's cheaper than the PS3 (And I think Wii if you get the Arcade version, not sure on that) it has a tonne of games because it's been out longer + it emulates Xbox and it gets a lot of exclusives.

If the PS3 was out a bit earlier, didn't cost so much, actually did proper backwards compatibility (Rather than just PS1 games) and had more exlusives, it would have blown the 360 out of the water. Did you know they intentionally made it hard to program games, so the ps3's full potential wouldn't be realised til 5-7 years after release? By contrast MS try to make it as easy as possible to produce games and so it gets way way more.

All my mates went from a PS2 straight to a 360 because of the issues above, no brand loyalty there, especially since noone likes Microsoft anyway because of what they do with PC software.

Never got the 'hard to program' idea myself, by the time that the PS3's getting the full potential a new Xbox will be out that matches it or more, and it'll have the 'new console' buzz...not sure what Sony was thinking there but hey.

If anything, it's brand loyalty keeping the PS3 alive, as others have said. :p

[edit: Just to clarify, I recently got a PS3 myself, it is a cracking console, but all the crap around it put me off buying one for almost 3 years.

My xbox 360 however is 2 years old and only recently did the RROD, emailed microsoft and they replaced it with a new one within 2 weeks plus gave me a month of xbox live as an apology. It's kind of annoying but the OP is making out like 3/4's of the time the damn thing is out of comission.]

[edit2: Does anyone else think the idea of 'loyalty' to a hardware vendor is utterly ridiculous? It's a frigging business for gods sake! They're in it for their shareholders, not their fans (Except the fans who are shareholders...)]

Xbox is synonymous with cool in this generation when it comes to the average gamer, it's the thing to have.

if you aren't buying it out of brand loyalty, you're buying it because it's a good console at an affordable price.
But that's the thing, people can say how cool it is, the game line up can be amazing, and the starting price can be affordable, but the fact is, it doesn't work right. Why buy something that has a good chance of failure? Is it really worth the trouble, aggravation and extra money?
for the first thee years MS covers you, and my regular nor my elite has failed. Those massive fail numbers and youtube posts that go kind of like "I just got my 4th 360 and it broke the first time I turned it on" are just people attacking a stereotype. If someone really buys 4 360's they must enjoy playing it or they wouldn't get a new one would they?

For me personally, it's the "I bought this, by God I'm going to get my money's worth out of it" mentality.

I get where you're coming from though. The reason I bought a 360 in the first place was because most of my friends had one, so we could play online.
Same here I really have no loyalty to any system

I don't see the 360 as a bad console in the least, but I do admit it's a little strange dealing with the RROD

It's because they don't play games on the computer and its a lame computer (IMO). While the Wii and PS3 are very game focused a lot of the Xbox 360's appeal (live) is a feature list that comes from X-Fire. Also, I know one guy who does it just because he doesn't have enough money to get a gaming rig, and he doesn't really like the PS3 or Wii.

But primarily, I think its because the Wii is seen as a sissy platform, the Xbox 360 came out a year before the PS3 so all the "cool" people already had one, and the PS3 is rather expensive for its problems.

Perfection is impossible, Nintendo neglected core market, PS3 was launched late and lost exclusives and the 360 caused several hundred china syndromes (wiki it).

While I am from the 360 camp and have had an E74, I can see the reason for wanting the PS3 ('real' next gen processing power and graphics), but its price and lack of any good exclusives puts me off saving for one. (say mgs4 and I will kill u, I will not under any circumstances sit for 26 minutes to get to a title screen.)

The 360 has appealed to the core and hardcore markets from the beggining as a affordable console. It has large category of games that cover quite a few tastes (expect for tactical espionage action).

I think splosion man may also be a contributing factor, its so damm fun and its xbox only.

No.

Sorry, there is no other answer. It's being kept alive because it's a bit cheaper than the PS3 (Not saying it's better people...) and has a wide variety of games.

I've never really had that much of a problem with the 360 or Microsoft. I did have to ship it off about 2 weeks ago for disk reading errors, but Microsoft repaired it for free and sent it back to me within a week, plus they gave me a new warranty with a free month of XBL. Maybe this is a rare occurrence of good Microsoft customer service, but so far (knock on wood) I haven't had a bad experience.

I've owned my 360 for over two years and I've never had so much of a hiccup from it. I've heard other people's horror stories but I guess I won the 360 lottery.

The thing is after the Xbox breaks and you see how fast they ship a new one to you, you just don't care any more. They have a great selection of games, great service and when it breaks, its free and back to me in like 2-3 days every time. I live in Canada so the service center isn't anywhere near me and I still get it quick. The Ps3 came out to late and by then, from what I had read Xbox had taken a good chunk of my favorite developers and since everything was more or less cross platform and still is I do not see myself needing to switch anytime soon.

I do not need a ps3 because my ps2 plays all the the sony games that I want to play, I don't find myself needing to see things in super HD via bluray because I have a 720p monitor. Mostly who cares me and my friends shill out a couple of bucks a month and chill in party playing a bunch of different games and then all end up playing the same games sony fans get together and play.

Okay, are you just taking a few storys you heard about the 360 breaking and taking them WAY out of context, or am I the only 360 owner whose 360 hasn't busted 4 times? You know how many times it has? NONE! Sure, it has frozen before, but every system does that. I like my 360 because it's a gaming system, not a toy like the Wii, and not a pricey Blu-ray player like the PS3.

If anything, I started liking Microsoft more because of the 360.

Here's what really confuses me. I can see why the Wii is so popular. I can see why the PS3 is so popular. I cannot, for the life of my, figure out why the 360 is so popular
You understand why the PS3 is popular but you do not understand why the 360 is...that makes no sense.

So the poll is, "what do you think of 360 loyalists?", but the post is "why are you a 360 loyalist?"

What I think of anyone who owns anything; it's what they want, if I like it, cool, if I don't, oh well, they do. If I think they might benefit from something else more, I'll let 'em know, but it's still their call.

Why do I own my 360? I've never really gotten into PS games, just never did, only ever had money for one console, and I got my original xbox for a birthday presnt. I did like the classic games on nintendo, but as they hit gamecube, I just either grew out of them or got bored. When it came time for "next-gen", the wii seemed to gimmicky to me, and the PS3 was god-awful expensive. I liked the games on xbox, and all my originals were ok'd for backwards compatibility. Also, I like the xbox live network, all my friends were on it. I bought it a year after release, ROOD'd on me two years later, took two weeks, free, and flawless for... I guess a year since. Still like the games, still think the wii is gimmicky, still think the PS3 is expensive and doesn't have any games that interest me. Also, still like the online better, functionality-wise.

Back in the day price didn't matter and it was loyalty and because the 360 was next gen that people bought them

Then, a decent crowd had 360s but soon their friends realised they could play online with their friends with their new Xboxs they got at Christmas.

Then, sh*tl*ads of new gamers decided they could also buy other games on the console that they could play with friends.

But...

At the minute - because it is Cheaper. Much cheaper. Have you seen the online prices of 360s these days?

we've become so caught up in the console war, everyone has become a participant.
I'm not taking part, I'm a PC gamer. PC gamers are officialy the console war version of Switzerland, sitting out all the big conflicts being smug.
Here, here!

My thoughts are mainly by what I've seen. Most gamers here in the UK my age are interested in two things - violent videogames and playing them online.

The Xbox caters those two things in spades. Halo 3, the most anticipated Xbox title ever being mainly focused on online play is a testament to this. Then there's games like Gears of War, COD4, etc.

Sure, the PS3 has those, but it's more expensive, and the internet on the system hasn't been anywhere near as hyped.

Well because tis cheap a lot of people are on it and devs still favor it over the PS3 and PC. Frankly if it were not for brand chasing fan boys the PS3 would be dead in the water.
Don't get me wrong the industry is catering to brand chasers its jsut easier to focus on a few brands/names/series than it is to make worth while products across the board...

It's cheaper than the PS3, has some good exclusives, and a comfortable controller.
