Almost every successful game series will be milked.

Half-Life is the only one I can think of that hasn't really been, and certainly the only one I want to see more games for.

If only the people at VALVe would get off their asses and release Episode 3...

Id say yes but to be fair there has been a fair bit of time between each game.

However they did take the p*ss with Halo Wars where they noticed a fan mod was getting a lot of attention so slapped a cease and desist order on them and made the game themselves....and a poor game at that.

That and halo ODST was unbelievably short and they couldn't even be bothered allowing match making for it.

Why such hatred towards Halo???

I do not particularly like the game series myself, but the animosity towards it on these forums is ridiculous!
Actually, we're quite neutral about Halo. It's just another game to us.
Exactly the way I feel, but why do some people have such hatred towards it. I could understand if it was a glitchy game, or had poor gameplay and graphics, but it seems to me from what I have seen of it that it is a standard FPS with a big fanbase.

Maybe that is the problem, when the fanboys and haters get together?!
It's a simple rule of the internet. If there is a big fanbase, there is a big hatebase. It's just the way it is. For every person who is a fan, there will be a pathetic moron who hates it for no reason other than it's popularity and success.

OT: Theres like 5 halo games...that's nothing compared to the big franchises like Fifa.[/quote]

I gotta go with this. 5 games in a 10 year period isn't that much and should hardly be considered milked.

IMO, the 2 newest Halo games are, well... Disappointing, to say the least. You've got an average RTS (or less than average), and an expansion pack with a horde gamemode and a 6 hour campaign.

Note: I don't hate Halo.

I for one don't think Halo Wars even counted soooo... I'm under the impression there are only four games out in the series so far since 2001. How is this milking the franchise?

They only have five halo games out.

Look at how many games Mario, final Fantasy, and Madden have? They make halo's franchise look irrelevant.
Too true. And at least Halo's plots are semi-different from each other. No offense to Nintendo, but really, how many times does one plumber have to save the same princess from the same evil reptile-thing?

People who don't think Halo is being milked are either guillable idiots or sheepish fanboys!

Call of Duty is a much better series {By fact, not opinion.} and it hasn't been milked like Halo, there are less Call of Duty games than there are Halo games!
O RLY?! Let's go through the list:

1 Main Series
1.1 Call of Duty
1.1.1 Call of Duty: United Offensive
1.2 Call of Duty 2
1.3 Call of Duty 3
1.4 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
1.5 Call of Duty: World at War
1.6 Modern Warfare 2
1.7 Call of Duty 7 (working title)
2 Related games
2.1 Call of Duty: Finest Hour
2.2 Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
2.3 Call of Duty: Roads to Victory
2.4 Call of Duty: World at War: Final Fronts
2.5 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized

All in the span of six years. Let's count Halo

Halo 1
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Halo 3: ODST
Halo Reach

All in the span of 8 years. Less Call of Duty games than Halo my ass. Next time you post, please get your facts straight.

EDIT: Oh wait there won't be a next time. You've been permabanned!
^I like this guy :D

If halo was more child orientated i can see a problem with milking it, like the new toy each week all the kids must buy or be uncool. But thats not how it happens, it's yearly, and it evolves and changes. Your not buying the same toy but now red, your buying a new game.

in it's most basic form, if i like the story and the universe etc around a game, book, movie, tv show i wouldn't want it to end after a one outing, that would suck. Firefly.
You know I was going to say something... but these two have the idea.

I think for a franchise to be milked it really has to start ending up in places it does not really belong, and end up being poorly done/not much done to successive games at all. Halo as a franchise is not quite there yet but I do think it may be getting close to that threshold. If Halo Reach is just Halo: ODST with Spartans then we might reasonably begin to accuse Microsoft of milking the franchise.

Who gives a crap?

Why do people suddenly seem to think that "I and only I may make decisions about what is good and bad. Only my opinion matters and if I don't like something or I think there are too many of them, well by god, it sucks and there are."

People want halo books, so they are written.
People want halo games, so they are coded.
People want halo sex toys, so they are injection molded and inserted.

Thine will be done. Thats how the economy works. Milk it or go broke.
They must go to forums and whine about it because they can't go outside. Can you imagine them walking into a store or even passing by a window seeing stuff they don't want or like? Thier melons would explode.

I do think the franchise is being milked, but the games themselves aren't toooo horrible. Bungie is still a pretty competent developer, and to say me and my friends haven't had masses of fun with (most) the titles would be a lie.

Bungie is in a contract with Microsoft where they make halo games until after reach, and Bungie is planning a non-halo project after reach. So if Bungie stops after reach then they are not milking it, but Microsoft is.

This exactly! A game series has only been 'milked' when it's brand recognition and basic concepts are manufactured to the point where the product doesn't even resemble a Halo game anymore. When they try to slap the Halo tag on something that clearly doesn't belong in the Halo universe, then they are milking it. Every entry in the Halo series to date has been good and has fit in well with the established canon and storyline.
