I've been on hiatus from WoW for a few months now and I'm kind of on the fence about whether or not I should give it another go.

Mostly, I ended it because I got a bit sick of the poor class balancing and tedious resource-gathering grind. Also, my guild's probably kicked me by now, which is the ONLY way you get into parties.

Still, raids were kinda fun and so were battlegrounds (during the 10% of the time you weren't being stun-locked by the stupidly overpowered NE rogues), sometimes there was some social interaction that didn't make me wanna vomit. So despite its shortcommings, I do kinda miss some aspects of the game.

I've heard from some people that Cataclysm honestly did make things better, but I'm not sure what to make of it. What's your opinion?

Come back long enough to finish questing in Uldum and then you can die happy whether you keep playing or not.

No one spoil it for the TC, some things are best experienced with surprise.

imho no, I've played for years, and after getting cata, 2 things drew me off. nr.1 the sheer retardness of other players went up 500% after the much needed difficulty curve that was added and the fact the whole world changed so much, everything you know is WRONG

I suggest getting cata, not for the end game content but for the revamped 1-60 experience.
It made me love the game all over again.

I totally agree! They redid all the dungeons, taking out a lot of repetitive parts and streamlining them

Even just to level through the 1-60 content, it's worth the $40.00 in my opinion.

The revamped questing is really great. Stonetalon mtns has one of the best quest chains evar, not to mention if you make it to the Badlands you get to punch Deathwing in the face, ah good ol' drunk Dwarves.

If you like the game yes, it's worth it. Me and my friends are having fun with it. Dungeons have bosses that do more then just stand there dying. Healing involves more then smashing flash heal now. I actually have to use other abilities. It's pretty awesome.

You don't need Cata for that. You get it even if you only have the first game.

I've gone back and the revamped leveling experience from 1-60 is worth the price of admission alone. Haven't got to the 80-85 content yet.

I'd say so. It's probably the best expansion out of the bunch as far as innovation and new content goes. A nice bonus was the increased difficulty with dungeons. Heroics got a badly needed difficulty boost, harking back to Burning Crusade's harder heroics. It's forcing players to actually not take damage rather than simply standing in the fire and letting the healers handle it.

Regardless, I'm still bailing for The Old Republic when it comes out, but I think Cata is a good expansion to leave WoW on.

Theres a new mission where you play as a steam-punk robot shooting the crap out of kobolds with a flaming magma ball laucher... GET IT.

Seriously man the new stuff ive seen is really good. Theyve really took alot of the grind out of the first 70 levels at least. More missions based on the overall story with the inclusion of major characters like Hellscream and Sylvanas (damn her new artwork is hooooooooooooot) so you actually know whats going on. Not to mention the new guilde system is really good, you WILL want in on one. Its just a much better overall game. Its still got alot of its old problems but they seem to be getting better over time, unfortunatly that means longer loading times... make sure you have a DVD on hand.

Yeah, get it.

With regards to leveling, I can only say that the new dungeons are more fun to play, and the quests for each are actually found in the dungeon itself rather than on the other side of the world. Can't speak for low level questing, as I haven't done any.

End game is better too. There are some great new quests about (throwing bear cubs onto trampolines, playing as a naga etc.) and the new heroics are a welcome change to someone like me who started on Wrath and got sick of facerolling everything. Haven't done any new raids yet, but I hear that they're a real challenge.

Oh, and you can now ride a skeletal raptor. Sweet!

The worgen's storyline/questline from 1-10 is the best thing I've played in a MMO. It's really one of the most fun things I've done in WoW. I was smiling and having a ball with it.

That being said, I got bored with Cataclysm quickly. After I played through the worgen and the goblins storyline I was bored. It take a good 30 min to get into a dungeon when you're 81+ if you're DPS. People in Cata dungeons tend to rage quit easily.

I'll probably pick it back up once the newbies die down, but until then, I'm bored of it.

You should try it, but if you're like me and want your 80 to be a 85, then you'll get bored quickly.

Out of all 3 of the expansions I like Cata the best, although I don't raid that much anymore the quests are entertaining and creative.

Cataclysm is, without question, the best xpack Blizzard has put out for wow.

The quest design is brilliant, the class balance is always getting better (and the reworking of several classes entirely has gone a long way to making them more interesting and challenging to play).

Blizz has also done a great job of treading the line between Lich king and Burning crusade in terms of dungeon difficulty. Dungeons are shorter and easier than BC, but no longer can you waltz into heroics undergeared and facroll your way through - brute forcing dungeons doesn't work any more.

This has had the effect of shedding a lot of light on poor players - and has some of them pretty grumpy. It's not that idiots and terribads are more common than before, it's that at this point in the game, their inability to use positioning and teamwork, as well as their inability to play their class properly has made them a liability. For what it's worth, as a long-time player of a reworked class that's been hit with the nerf bt HARD since lich king, I think the game's better now than it ever has been. But then, I'm a healer, and I'm good at my role.
