I think it's good to add the choice to the options available, but it is not happening with my character(s) in ME3.

I like the idea of choice. I have always been against homophobia and hate towards others. But I wouldn't do that with my character. I just hope it won't be like Dragon Age 2 were you can bone every party member there is, except the tank and the dwarf. I really don't want every character in my squad to be flirting with me just because I was nice to them. Please don't make Tali a lesbian, it was already bad enough that she romancable in the second, but if they allow her for female characters, the fan-fiction will just be running even more rampant.

I just hope its not cheesy or too preachy because at the end of the day I play games to have fun not to be lectured.
I imagine it will end with one of these:

As for my shepard, there is no need for him to come out of the closet, he is straight. Why? Because I am and I enjoy playing the character as my avatar in his universe.

Maybe it really depends how it's handled. I have no problem with my Shepard being MSM, but I don't think he'd identify as gay. Seeing as this is the future I figured he'd simply be fluid in his sexuality by default.

Sorry, but I'm keeping my Tali! It's gonna be hard enough to keep ashley off of her as it is, I don't need extra complications.

Although if I replay with the renegade femShep I'll make in ME2...I might just be an evil bastard and dump Garrus for Jack....Just to be evil. XD

I have multiple Shepards. My main male Shepard is dedicated to Liara. My main female Shepard is also dedicated to Liara so technically, one of my Shepards is already out of the closest. As for the extra Shepards I have kicking around...it depends on who's hitting on him/her.

Maybe if i can be bothered playing through the previous two again just to make a single shepard that will turn out gay for the lulz. Anyway it does make sense that Shepard could be gay, if you play it so that he never really interacts with the female companions that much and he pretty much exclusively goes out with a squad of dudes. It might just be that because doom is pretty much impending he decides to be open about who he is.

In my opinion it would be cute if one or two of the squadmates ended up together, im not saying they all have to pair off but it would be nice to see that relationships can happen without Shepard.

[small]tali and garrus ^^[/small]

Nope, but I cannot for the life of me understand why people are even discussing this. Did the lesbians from the first two games bother you? No? Then this shouldn't either.

EDIT: To quote the OP: "just to pander to a wider audience". Of course, cause we know there's a shitload of male gay gamers out there, right?
It's not the homosexuality in the game that bothers me. I'd be quite happy for there to be a gay romance option for male Shepard. What I object to is the way that Bioware are making a big thing out of it and, if the recent press release is to be believed, dedicating a sizeable chunk of the game to the issue. Even if Shepard isn't gay.

I'm glad to finally get the option; I played my main Shepard through MEs 1 and 2 as queer as I could, given the options, eking every bit of gay subtext possible out of his interactions with Kaiden and telling myself that it sucked that DADT in the Alliance navy held me back from coming right out and telling him "dude, come to my cabin and we'll get all biotic with each other." And I hoped that some future installment would get over its heterosupremacist privilege. Tell you what, it's gonna be a hell of a reunion when those boys get back together and at long last express their previously repressed feelings for each other :D After all, I paid for my copies of the games, my money's as good as anyone else's; if it's a role playing game where we get to pour ourselves into our character, I want just as much opportunity to get my pixels serviced as a straight player. When they buy the game for me, they can tell me how to play it.

No. Overall, I actually find the idea to be bad. They seem to be adding it to Mass Effect out of nowhere. There's nothing wrong with homosexuality in games (or, you know, anywhere) but I have a feeling it'll feel forced... which, considering that every damn relationship in the series feels forced, isn't that much of a stretch of the imagination. So I guess it will fit in fine. Nevermind.

That wasn't a press release, that was a forum post from one of the writers of Dragon Age: Origins. Who, mind you, I talked to about the post, and not only could she not have posted it since she was on maternity leave, she wouldn't even if she wasn't as she doesn't work on the Mass Effect franchise.

It was a hoax, a doctored image. There is no "coming out" chapter.

I voted no, but ugh, I hate to be part of that demographic now that I see the results.

I'm gay myself, and I'd love to see Shepard foster a relationship with Garrus or Thane, but there's no character in the game I want to romance more than Tali. She's my favourite character in the series, and Shepard and her have an awesome history. So no, though I'd like to, I'd rather have a cool in-game canon than just the satisfaction of seeing a scene in tune with my RL sexuality that I can look up online if I want.
