Why would you bother to defend a genre of videogame?

If you like racing games, good for you. I also like them. If you don't like them, good for you, stick to the games you like.

No game genre is worth defending, you don't need to prove to anybody how good something is, just enjoy it. Plus, just because somebody online says a game or genre sucks, doesn't mean developers are going to get their feelings hurt or stop making games. I myself, am not the biggest racing fan and only enjoy the more wacky and cartoony racing games such as Mario Kart. If you think the games are getting repetitive though, try to find something else to play or try out different racing games.
I agree, I've been working on it, and the other games I try have nearly put me to sleep or frustrated me to beyond belief. I just figured I'd ask y'all what you thought.

Simple, they won't shut up and leave. There like a four year old sibling, constntly babbling until you just want to throw the idiots out.

I've found the few racing games I like very varied from one another and can't really say why I enjoy them so much. Quite possibly just an ease of play sort of thing. That's why I voted Arcade.

I don't see Dirt, Pure, Grid, and PGR on your list. And those are the good racing games you missed.

I don't even see how Burnout is an exception. Its not a racing game it is a glorified crashing game.

I am still convinced that Need for Speed Underground is the best racing game I ever played.

I don't see the fun in racing games. The only real feature that seems to draw people in is the realistic graphics and the depth of vehicle customisation.

Unless your a car enthusiast, I don't reckon there's much to defend.

Pretty much every racing game ,with the exception of the Mario Kart games and the more aggressive modes in the Burnout games, fills me with adamantium rage. Why? Let's take a look at a scenario from my rental of Midnight Club:LA. I was about to finish first in a race I had tried about ten times. I was within 50 yards of the finish line with a very comfortable lead. Then, without warning, I turn a corner and run straight into a billboard. I back up and hit boost. I hit a telephone pole a half-second after I hit the boost button, meaning I sat there for about five seconds while my boost ran out and I lost places 1-4. Adamantium rage!

Those are all Codemasters games if I remember right. I'll put PGR up shortly.

Got to race to unlock things.

Did you play any NFS games between Most Wanted V.1 and Undercover? NFS:MW Black edition had muscle cars, and all those are in Pro Street.
I did play MW, it was one of the best as well. I was told to avoid Pro Street, so I never played it.

I still wait for a game with a 77 Trans Am. Now that I think about it, why don't they make a Smokey and the Bandit video game?
NFS Carbon 'Own the City' has one, and I think Midnight Club LA has one (whoops, forgot a series).
I did have Carbon, but traded it in not too long ago. I never saw a trans am, was "own the city" and addon?

I'd kill just to simulate driving that car...

I enjoy in racing games with what the majority of people like to see in the real races, a shit load of crashes and things that go boom.

Hence the reason I don't share video games. Good luck.

Dirt and Grid.

Pure is made by Disney Interactive.

PGR is made by Microsoft.

Burnout is still a glorified crash game.

Rent Pro Street first, the story is junk but the game isn't all bad.

Interesting, would never have guest that

MSR for Dreamcast was made by Bizzare, has something involved with Flash 3 (older than I thought)

Yes, but at least you can work off the frustration you get when racing.

Don't bother. Undercover is on bottom on the list of NFS games I've played, and MC:LA created Issue 5

The only driving games I have ever really liked are Mario Kart, Kirby's air ride and the twisted metal series. I guess I like the games that let you wreck other people up.

I don't play racing games, myself. Personaly, I don't see that appeal, as I can go out and drive in a circle right now, if I wanted. And don't say 'it's not a circle.' You start at point A, and end at point A, that's a circle to me. :-D And by the way, author, you didn't put an 'a different game' option on the poll...

...but seriously, if racing is your thing, fine, I have neither the will, nor the power to deny you of that. But nothing really needs 'defending.' Play what you want, and I play what I want. That's all there is too it. Personal opinions are why there is so much variation in everything, including gaming.
