A silly topic that is meant to be a fun place to disseminate an unpopular conspiracy that I have seen going around the internet (one person jokingly mentioning it here on the escapist) is that Dungeon Keeper mobile was create with the sole intent of driving up sales of Dungeon Keeper 1&2 by both creating exposure and a nostalgic desire to play the original in lieu of the recently released travesty (while nickle and dimming doofuses as a bonus).

Whadaya think?

Was a cheap as possibly knockoff with the guaranty of creating controversy and by extension exposure created with the sole purpose of driving predicted GOG sales as a means to earn a little extra scratch.

While this is indeed a joke thread created with the transparent intent of being a fun alternative to all the cynical Choir Preaching going around the inter-webs I do indeed hope that at least some interesting discussions can happen after a refreshing round of grape flavoured conspiracy theories.

Nope. Just soulless milking of a well-respected name. Any GOG sales spikes are just icing on the cake.

I predict that in a few years free-to-play games will be able to keep your mobile devices hostage or even bricking them unless you play at regular intervals, with regular of course being more than free play allows. But don't worry, it'll be a service to the customer.

I would'nt be surprised if they did it purely to test how much the market was willing to put up with this sort of shit. And if people were going to buy in on it they would be more aggresive in the future with both F2P and payed titles. However it has backfired on them

Well, I AM playing Dungeon Keeper 2 at this very moment, so they succeeded in that, also War for the Overworld got my contribution.

Could be I guess, seems like a lot of trouble to go through rather than just knocking half the price off on GOG and bumping it to the front page.

Conspiracy implies something sinister. What is supposed to be sinister in a company doing their capitalistic duty?

I predict that there will be many rabid defenders of this practice.

I predict that Jim Sterling will use Dungeon Keeper to yet again beat on the dead horse of "fee-to-pay" games during tomorrow's Jimquisition.

Well it's fun that they made a new game out of not rating an app 5 stars.

I'm waiting for the adventure game term of pixel hunting to come into play when you want to rate something lower then 5

Wouldn't the nostalgic people already own it? PC gamers were never big on sharing so I can't see them being nostalgic for a game they borrowed from a friend.
