I'm pretty sure Yoda explicitly told Luke to pass on what he had learned. In the movie. So, it's not like the whole thing is noncanon or something.

As bad as the majority of the EU is, it's still not as bad as the prequels. I'd declare them noncanon before the EU.

Kinda, I actually love the CG series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Dave Filoni and the team do a great job. But, every time GL decides to have a say in it he ruins things a little. For example, his take on Mandalorians is drastically different than the EU, as are his origins for Asajj Ventress, he seems to have something against Virboblades and Yellow Lightsabers, he killed off a character who becomes fairly important to an EU novel set in The Dark Times, and the crew planned a Darth Revan cameo in the excellent Mortiss trilogy of episodes but GL axed it.

I could have had a Darth Revan cameo, him, EU General Grievous (A few appearances in the new series have been good though) and Grand Admiral Thrawn are my favorite Star Wars characters. I'm currently replaying KotOR (Can't wait for the Revan novel!) and reading the Hand of Thrawn duology for the first time (The Thrawn trilogy is the only set of books I've liked so far. George Lucas seems to not like these characters.

Oh, and he screwed up my favorite seen in the entirety of Star Wars apparently by adding some cheesy "no"'s. I used to look up to you man, you were my hero...

I could care less. It's his baby, he can keep doing whatever he wants to it. The man's a perfectionist. He can't help but go back and tweak. It just makes sense to him. Only fans get really angry about it. I realize that the universe implodes for them if Han shoots first, but honestly none of his little tweaks have ruined the movies. Just fan nostalgia.
Exactly this. I just hate how people treat Star Wars as if it is "all theirs" and that Lucas ruined it. I literally wanted to vomit at the whole "Lucas raped my childhood" thing. That was offensive on so many levels.

It is his movie, his story, he can do whatever he wants. You can like it or not like it, you can buy it or not buy it. But please, I beg you, just STOP going on and on and on about it. If Star Wars is sufficiently ruined for you then break out your original VHS tapes, pop em in and go to town. Like it or not Jar Jar is official, complaining about it won't change it.

Otherwise, it's really not that bad.

Although I will say this: Han -did- shoot first. XD

P.S. Star Wars is still awesome. And I loved the prequels. Flame away, friends, flame away.

Not really.

I don't really get all the George-Lucas rage over Star Wars. I really don't. But then again, I'm not the fanboy-type in general. I take entertainment for what it is, not what i think it "should" be in my mind.

Well I didn't really care about him enough to begin with to say he's dead to me. As a writer/director, the man hasn't produced anything good in roughly 30 years, and he seems adamant to package as much insipid shit he can with the Star Wars logo, as long as it will bring him more money. As utterly shameful as Lucas is, I also have to wander who exactly is still buying the shit that's being made after all this time? You'd have thought most of the hardcore star wars fans would have abandoned ship when Phantom Menace came out. I suppose it's mostly the kids now, who were brought up from the prequels, I admittedly saw Phantom Menace first then Simon Pegg yelled at me and I went home to watch the originals:

Meandering tangents aside, I think the fans of the original series swore off Lucas long ago, this is just pouring sulphuric acid onto a man who's already in the middle of being quartered.

This is the most selfish thread I seen on this site and trust me I seen a lot.

You're telling me, that because he wanted to tweek around using new tech on an old movie. He "dead" to you? Let me ask you this, was he someone you was friends with, have dinner with or even seen at a Covention?

No? Then why does he have to be 'Dead" to you? As far as I see can this is his series and he could do whatever the bloody hell he want with them. You don't HAVE to buy the bluray movies, hell my father own ALL 3 original movies on VHS. you could just do that. Get a VCR, go grab the original set and watch them.

Nothing. Change.

No, he has fucked up a shit ton of times and he keeps doing it but you know it's kinda hard to hate him since he did give me the original Star Wars movies and Indiana Jones 1 and 3 which I love, now after all he's done I have lost a lot of respect for him, but no I don't hate him I can't he gave me 5 of my favorite movies of all time and no matter what he does that is still a pretty damn big thing he did and I can't hate him.

I though he was ground down to bacon and fed to hungry masses of 3rd world countries.

Really couldn't care for him. Star Wars is alright, but since I've found Warhammer 40K...... it's fallen out of favor.

Until he actually dies, no. I have the good fortune to be able to separate man from art. You might want to look into not conflating things.

So here it goes: Is george lucas dead to you?
To me, he died today. I know I will seem like a troll but whatever, the changes to the original SW aren't something I am ok with so yeah, to me, he died back then and now he is a clone controlled by Spielberg.
So tell me escapists...
You so ridiculous. He gave me a lot of fond childhood memories. And the fact people react with such melodrama as announcing "he's dead to me!" to all the world probably doesn't help him to take you seriously. He went a little crazy in his later years, bought into his mythos a little too much like all those people who climb to the top only to come tumbling down, sure. But I'll always appreciate the guy for who he used to be. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back To The Future. That man helped make the 80's that much better and made America that much more culturally impressive at the time.

You can say he's dead to me, because you realize it's kinda silly and kind of troll-tastic. But we're both clear on that, ya know? I understand your feelings though I try to keep things in perspective.

Star Wars the original trilogy was something I almost worshiped as a little kid. As I grew up there were edits upon edits and then eventually the prequel trilogy which I didn't think was bad but just not as great as the original. The more I grow up the more I see it as something he milks just for the cash and it makes me sad. George Lucas is someone that may have had some great ideas once upon a time ago, but now it's just rehashing everything all the time, nothing original anymore. Dead to me seems harsh, I prefer he exists a little less to me each time something get's changed or edited. I do feel the expanded universe has a lot of interesting stories, some better then others. I still haven't gotten around to trying any KOTOR games but I hear has a pretty good story in it and I'm also eager to see what kind of stories might come out of the TOR mmo that's coming out

"If you enjoyed the original movies at all, do yourself a favor and read the Heir to the Empire series by Timothy Zahn. He's a great Sci-fi writer on his own, but that series was so well written and natural for the universe, you'd swear that it was the true episodes 7-9."

/\ This, a thousand times this! Great books and I'd also recommend Tales of the Bounty Hunters too.

George Lucas is just a Director. Star Wars is what I really cared about. I loved the originals. I love the look, the feel of those movies. All three, great films. I even love the Ewoks. The prequels, I kind of let them slide because of the ARC troopers and Republic Commando.

Basically, yeah. Star Wars is over for me. I'll stick to the original trilogy, Jedi Knight, X-Wing, and the X-Wing book series. I figure the Canon is what you make it, and if Lucas won't retcon it I will.

he also likes to mess with the established canon as well, which is what causes MOST of the anger. if the minor changes to the movies were all he did, it would be as the comment directly below yours is; bitching over nothing.
(but to be fair, it was better without him verbalizing his emotion. actions speak louder than words you know?)

yeah, it really pisses me off how he changed the backstory of the mandalorains, since it made it so the republic commando series of books can never be finished (she was part-way through the last book too!). and this all happened RIGHT after i finished the second-to-last book. so yeah, fuck him.
