I voted 'guns go bang!' because I don't really think I have a say in this.

If the owner of the house you live in is against guns in his/her house, then his/her wish should be respected.

depends on what cal. I shoot .22lr rounds out my window everyday and it's super cheap. $4 for 50 rds. You should NOT own a high cal. weapon because unless you hunt you have no reason to. Im 16 as well and I understand that. I have a 12 guage for bird hunting and that is the only thing I do with it.

I agree with that, but the owners may be narrow minded about it. (BTW dig the picture!)
Guns don't kill people. People kill others with them.

This is a true moral problem here. I feel that it goes both ways. Guns are a danger in many ways but useful in others. I 100% say you must follow house rules because parents are the head and make rules for their own property. On the other hand I am a police officer and i understand the important of a firearm. At the age of 16 it shouldnt be a personal fire arm maybe it could be father or step fathers and yall go out shooting togeather for safety and as a learning experience.

Woops, bad wording, let me clarify.

Pistols or handheld weapons, that's reasonable. But a rifle is pretty damn big and powerful, and is unecessary unless you occupy the universe of Fallout. Plus, if defending yourself and your family is the issue, other weapons besides guns exist in the world.
Whats wrong with having a little extra knockdown power when your life is on the line? Rifles can also be used for hunting and sport shooting.

There are other weapons that you could use to defend yourself, like knives and various blunt weapons, but all of those require you to be close to the intruder, and have some amount of skill to use them effectively. While guns are best used with some kind of training, you can still just point and shoot without being close to the intruder. Theres also the intimidation factor of guns, probably more so with rifles than handguns, that will dissuade some intruders from continuing there crime.

you should discuss it in great detail with them, you don't realy need a gun but at the same time you realy need allot of tings now adays.

ALthough you may be abit upset about it having a gun around may just be a bad omen, remember no one can get shot if there is no gun to fire.

I wouldnt want a gun in my house, especially if a 16 year old was in charge of it
Pretty much this.

If you could rent a locker for the gun then your step dad doesn't live in a house with the weapon.
Or get a softair rifle, they look like the real deal, you can have fun shooting it without killing somebody accidentally.

I got my first air rifle when I was 17, and anohter shortly after that, mainly for target shooting and pest control> Mum wasnt too happy about and that was the result of me getting my grandads old one for free, then she consented to getting a new one that could do the job properly.
You can make the strongest case in the world, but at the end of the day you need parents consent and if thats not coming then your not getting one, some people just dont like guns and their opinion is everybit as valid as yours. But if you wait a few years then you can move you and use guns as wall paper if you like. Living in England its unlikely I will be able to get anything bigger than my .22 rifles, though I would not mind a bolt action full bore .22 for the foxes I have around me (thiers 6 cubs in just one litter!), If I am not sure I can kill it with 1 shot, I wont shoot it, and I dont think my air rifle is up to the task.

Rim-fire magnums are they way to do it for foxes. Nice little hollow point on them and you're almost guaranteed that nothing dangerous will come out the back if anything. I take it for a 6-cub litter nearby you're living somewhere in the countryside?

Edit: .22 Magnum Rim-fire that is.

So you're under 18 and you want a gun. Any particular reason that you would need a gun, or is it Just Because?

Totally with your dad on this one. It's bad enough that every redneck *adult* in America has a gun.

u know 22 mag. rounds have pierced kevlar i wouldnt recommend buying them, for that reason
That smells fishy. What sort of round? (Yes I know magnum but other than that)
For a weapon that drops off significantly after 100yards I wouldn't have thought it would have the energy to pierce kevlar.

Dick Chaney knows how to shoot a gun, so? Dude your 16, just wait till you move out. What do you even need a gun for? Get an alarm system if your that paranoid.

Its not like you live in a variety store in the gheto.

Edit: Also dude, try to use better grammer, people here will eat you alive for bad spelling.

(even the mods don't like it)

If you want to hunt then be a man - use your hands to do the killing. Shooting things is for pussies.
I do apologise most sincerely for moving along with the advancement of technology, truthfully I do not feel like an adequate enough man by sitting in front of my PC, I shall return when I've gone, driven a car really fast, got into a fist fight and killed a deer for dinner just by staring at it, then I will know I'm a real man.

....

Or not.
Really though? What's with everyone saying shooting isn't manly? We're not Neanderthals and by the standards of two or three generations ago all but the top 1% of us are mewling babies not fit to do a proper days work (Yes I know I'm pulling statistics out of my ass). On the other hand why go through the horrendous effort of the 'up-close kill' when there's just as much thrill using something that can put a hole in it and stop it from running away?
Oh and I'd love to see you try and catch wildfowl without a dog/gun.

So pussies, well I'll leave that to your opinion and disagree, we may be but at least we're not thick as two short.
