So my family and I were eating, and incest became, albiet briefly, the subject. So that got me thinking: is incest wrong if it's consensual?
It's not morally wrong.
Do whatever you want (If it's consensual)
If a child comes out of it, that's your problem.
This. Consensual adults should, and are for the most part, allowed to do whatever they want with each other.

Exactly. Not much to add here, really.
The only argument against it is the whole children thing. But that's it.
Even that is cagey, cause then the principle applies that the only people who can have children are those who are the most likely to produce healthy, superior offspring.

Neither are great choices, but one trumps.

I read the title. I turned my twin sister. I asked her what she thought about it.

She says it's gross. I'm inclined to agree.

2 out of 2 twins agree: Incest is just weird.
My twin agees with you, and I agree with he. So I suppose 4/4 twins.
Fuck how can you ask a sibling that question!?!? I'd run the fuck away if I was asked that from a sibling.
We're really close. I despise her, but we are really close.
Really close. Just not that close. squick
Don't... just don't.
Okay, okay, but it just begged to be said.. the way you're expressing yourself just opens it up to ridicule.

Two things to say:

Not one argument against it morally has been valid in this thread so far, come at me. Note this is not disputing the disgustingness of it, merely that it's WRONG.

And another:

I'm really dying to get the dialogue on this discussion. Who brought it up, why, how, what was said about it and how was it concluded?
I'm not sure who bought it up, and it was ended 3 seconds later by my mother.
"As far as you kids are concerned my vagina is a one-way street! END OF!"

Something like that?
[sub]That was a joke.[/sub]
That better be a joke.
You... wait, you DON'T want...

... I'm getting really weird vibes from you.
Wait, so you're implying that you would... but... what...

Weird vibes, eh?
Essentially I was implying your mother shot down the conversation by implying that you kids are only allowed out of it and not in it. It being her vagina.
And then you get offended.

As long as no child comes out of it, and they're both consenting adults, it's fine. Also, POLL?

Incest is a bit more controversial than blood transfusions. Yes, SOME religions see blood transfusions as unnatural, but incest is almost universally disliked by all, save it's practitioners.
But now you're down to the old chestnut of common opinion makes rightness, and I don't need to patronise you with examples of how insane that logic is.
It's not just about common opinion, incest can lead to birth defects, which is why I also said that it's not natural.
I'm still confused as to the function of saying whether or not something is natural adds to any points made.

So can 'normal' cest. And of all the afflictions someone can be afflicted with, birth defects from genetic causes are amongst the most natural of them.

Damn it, I hope you were using the word "irregardless" ironically. Holy crap, the computer doesn't register an error when I type that word?

OT

Well.......I would stay away from those people who actually do it.

it reminds me of a comedy sketch I saw about the controversy of two gay men kissing whilst on a flight. It basically went;

"STOP THAT! It's unnatural!!"
"You're flying."

it was hilarious.

No one cares how an incestuous person gets there rocks off, they care that the implication involves reduced genetic variance, and increased risk of birth defects in resulting children. The usual response from a person playing devils advocate is, "Well what if its not sex that could produce a child?" The answer to that is that all forms of incest are looked upon as aberrant behavior to make doubly sure that people don't have kids through incest. The only feasible way to make sure that child producing incest is ALWAYS frowned upon is to frown upon ALL incest.

You could argue that this is foolish, simply people sticking to a primitive, animalistic perspective instead of looking at something deeper. Ponder this foolishness as you go and blow up people from a different tribe in a video game, go watch a movie about killing people in a different tribe on TV, watch an advertisement filled with boobies, then cook up a big juicy steak while listening to a song talking about some social process that will eventually lead to sex.

Also, you talked about incest at the family dinner table? I'm not accusing you of getting weird ideas involving your family, I'm accusing your entire family of having flipping WEIRD dinner conversations. My family always talked about our respective days, personally.

Debating whether it's morally wrong to have a consensual incestuous relationship is something that doesn't even matter.
The incest part doesn't even come into play yet - the problem is "consensual".

Family members can excercise way too much influence over each other to truly be able to say something is consensual. It's not a case of "it always is like this", it is a case of "it might be like this, and that's why it's best to ban it altogether".

The same thing goes for relations between teacher and pupil. A sexual relationship with your student gets you jailed, and put on the sex offenders list. Even if the both of you are adults, and even if it was the student asking you out for dates / dinner / etc.

It's just a case of accepting the responsibility of being in an influentual position.
This is true of any relationship as simply by virtue of being in a relationship they're probably influential in their life. ANY relationship has the potential for abuse, that doesn't mean you ban relationships altogether, it means you try to stop the abusive ones. I mean, can't you see how the "it might be like this, and that's why it's best to ban it altogether" thing could be applied to almost anything? "Guns can be used to break into someone's house and murder someone, better ban guns". "People can get drunk and run someone over, better ban cars". "Policeman might abuse their authority, better ban policeman". Plus, here's the thing. If one of the participants is really abusive or exploiting their position do you think they're going to care if incest is illegal or taboo or whatever? No! In much the same way banning guns doesn't prevent people getting shot, banning incest isn't going to prevent abusive family relations.

Slightly.
Road rage is more common among those who drive cars. Potassium overdose is more common among people who eat lots of bananas. Sore hands are more common among people who suffer from OCD. Torso wounds are more common among those who practice hara-kiri.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

No. Study up on the risks and how to avoid them, then go find a consenting adult and Fuck them silly.

What 2 consenting adults do in their bedroom is NOBODY, and I Fucking mean NOBODY but theirs' business. And way too many people in this world get off to forcing everyone else to live under their views.

You think something is wrong? Fine. Don't do it. But let others do what they want.

*end rant*
