Poll: Is it just me or does the game media even seem fed up with E3?

It seems to me like it's been a while since we had an exciting and surprising E3. I wasn't expecting much this year so I guess I wasn't too disappointed. I expected the WiiU launch to be a bunch of games everyone played a year ago. I expected MS to talk very little about games but more about how well they're copying something off Nintendo. I expected Sony to try and ignore the fact that their hardwares' lack of features and talk about all the games we already knew about.

What surprised me however is that the game media seems pretty tired of the whole thing too. Besides just the blogs I've read, the TV coverage seems a bit venomous. Some guy on Spike TV was really grilling Reggie about the old games launching with the Wiiu. And on G4 I saw the guy who looks like Beaker really trying to pry criticism out of industry people who were obviously uncomfortable about criticizing their peers.

E3 is...kind of meaningless now. I mean this generation is like a million years old now. No one is really doing anything interesting. And most of the stuff companies reveal at E3, gets leaked, or they announce it anyway and go HAAAA WAIT FOR E3! and..they forget they they just sort of told us everything we wanted to know.

E3 for the past few years, to me, has just been a way to ramp up the hype engine to max. And there's a convention for these things every couple of months. So..Yeah E3 is kind of pointless now. It's sad. We're actually fed so much information these days we just kind of...don't care anymore. Not to mention the endless sea of sequels...we know they're coming.

I think everyone's just exhausted. E3 focuses solely on the console AAA products, which doesn't give it a wide variety to show. Everything is to eleven all the time no matter what, because apparently it'd be sacrilege to walk out there and say "This game will be pretty good I think, hope you guys like it" instead of "THIS WILL CHANGE EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIVES FOREVER!" I think producers and developers didn't have much to showcase just yet, and that hurt E3 as well.

This was a culmination of several factors, none of which are really excusable. E3 should talk about PC games, mobile and tablet games, hell card games even. That Wonderbook looks interesting, why didn't we see more of that? Why couldn't we have something sincere and genuine from people instead of spokesmen giving obviously rehearsed speeches and quips about how awesome everything they do is? Is honestly really so hard to come by?

Better question, wasn't there a big thing with E3 backing SOPA awhile back, and everyone was up in arms about boycotting it and not giving E3 the time of day anymore? Seems like this would be a win-win, we're all still pissed off and E3 isn't giving us anything worthwhile. Next time let's just not give it any attention maybe?

That depends on which part of the E3 you focus. They do seem fed up with the press conferences, which at the moment seem aimed at share holders instead of the videogame community.

The show floor however seems to be a lot more rich in terms of content. A lot more variation, one-on-one talks with developers, gameplay examples, etc. That part of the E3 still has something to offer at least.

So I was going to pass this thread over when I suddenly realized that I haven't even cared enough about E3 to watch or read any of the coverage about it except for this site. Considering that I used to watch coverage of it on G4TV and read articles on it fairly often in years passed I think your definitely on to something op.

Every year I lose more interest in following the coverage. The gaming media is trying hard but honestly it's impossible to be interested.

The industry convinced itself that we need to know about certain games so that we can follow them at E3, so they announce way to much stuff before it.

Frankly I think it has declined since.. Probably 2007-8? Don't remember too well.

There wasn't a hell of a lot to get excited about this year. The Big 3 were hyping hardware and it's hard to care about systems that don't have games yet
