(also he thinks pokee-mon is pokuh-mon...idk)
Say it like you are going to say Maury (Maury Povich), from the Maury show, but then just add an "O." It's likes that.

The other technically isn't wrong, but he's suppoed to actually be Italian American, not New York Guinzo (if you'll excuse the slightly offensive slang), so... yeah.

I'm thinking too much about how I say it because I've read this thread now -_-

But I'm sure I say Mar-ee-o.

Well Mari-o sounds more Italian, so i guess that would be the correct one. I don't see anything wrong with pronouncing it in a way that sounds more natural in your language though. I personally don't pronounce it correctly because no one I know do.

He himself pronounces it (Mar ee oh). No question there. I've heard a lot of people use that Mary-o pronunciation, and I still have no idea where they got that sound from.

To-MAY-to, to-MAH-to, who cares? In the end it's the same name for the same lil' plumber and if you say either to the screen and he answers it's probably time to put up the controller and get some rest.

Considering in Super Mario 64, Peach says "Mar-e-o", and that I live in western Canada, I'm going to go with Mari-o.
Phonetics rarely matter these days, since English is the most flexible language ever, and so long as you still make sense, you can cut out pretty much everything in the english language, and be left with a handful of vowels and consonants.

Evn tho ths shudnt maek cents, it duz

I've heard MARR-IO and MAH-RIO before, never Mary-o because thats just silly. I say MAH-RIO.

Also it's not POKEE-MON or POKUH-MON, it's POKAYMON!

Mah-ri-o i think, maybe Mari-o, or Mah-rio.

Also, I think it's Pok-kae-mon. The tittle is Pokémon, after all.

I think if he really was from Italy, he and everyone else would say Mari-o. But since he's from Brooklyn and mostly likely grew up bilingualy, they might've called him Mary-o there.

I recall it being "mary-oh" on the "Super Mario Bros. Super Show." But in that show most of the characters, including Koopa, had brooklyn accents, so that was probably the reason for your friend's confusion.

In Italian, it should be MAH-ree-oh. Other languages pronounce it differently, for example French-Canadian hockey player Mario Lemieux pronounced it MARE-ee-oh, but the Nintendo Mario's Italian, it should be the Italian way.

Your friend is an idiot who doesn't understand that there are other languages and accents beyond his own English dialect. In Japanese (game's country of origin) it's pronounced mah-ri-oh. In Italian (Mario's home country) it's pronounced mah-ri-oh.

It's an italian name and correctly it would be pronounced the way italians do it and as Mario himself says it in his well-known line.
If some people pronounce it different, due to their native language and whatnot, that's no problem with me but it's not correct
