Mario is how it's pronounced, it's how the name is pronounced. The name is NEVER pronounced mary-o, and if someone pronounces it that way it's incorrect, unless it's a special version of the name.

Depends on the accent. I don't think he's trolling, but I know anyone with a Brooklyn/similar accent would say "mary-o". Actually, someone with an Italian accent might pronounce it as such too, which might be why he's insistent.

Considering how many times I've heard his name across all his games, (said by himself, Luigi, Peach, and even Bowser) it's strange to me how there can be a discrepancy on the subject between 2 people from the same country. Unless the pronunciation varies from region to region, it is officially and incontrovertibly pronounced MarIo, and that is most certainly the correct pronunciation in the US. Well I find the pokemon one is interchangeable as they do use it interchangebly in the series. Usually pokuhmon refers to 1 pokemon while pokémon/pokaymon refers to many pokemon ususally.
