I don't have a moral issue with eating any particular animal. Cats/dogs specifically? no I wouldn't eat them personally, and I wouldn't be surprised that selling them for human consumption is illegal in some jurisdictions, but those aren't moral strictures per se.

But cats and dogs seem to show such different qualities, which is why they are domesticated.
For example, when our pond freezes over, my cat walks across the ice to the other side.
She has absolutely no reason to go to the others side, she doesn't usually go there normally.
Like when humans walk on an ice lake, the only reason she walks across the pond is because SHE CAN. When we walk across an ice lake, it's not because we now have a convenient route to the other side, we just enjoy taking advantage of the fact we now can. I've always found it amusing that in the coldest parts of winter, my cat shows the same human-like quality. She often likes to sit in the middle, again because SHE CAN.
Anyway, it just seems wrong to eat an animal that does this sort of thing.

I got in trouble for saying this at school, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

Eating someones pet no matter what kind of animal is wrong...

Dogs and cats aren't really for eating though, with cows and pigs bred over the years to produce meat products for consumption, so don't see much point doubt they would be very tasty

It's not wrong really but wouldn't do it myself or condone anyone who did it

It is morally wrong to eat dogs because it is a betrayal of alliance estabilished between species. Men domesticated the wolf, because it trusted the man that it will not be harmed if it comes near human settlements. The natural selection reinforced that trust and that's how dogs came into being. Keeping a dog in order to eat it is taking advantage of that trust. It is abusive and manipulative on the scale of whole generations.

Seriously, fuck people who eat dogs.

(It is similar with cats, but to a lesser degree)
Unless you subsist entirely on a diet of wild game/vegetables, EVERY animal you eat is domesticated.

Also, there isn't a 'bond of trust' between canines and humans. In individual cases maybe, but to make a species-wide generalization like that is simply false.
Regarding adult wolves, for the vast majority of human history any wolf or other predator approaching a human settlement was likely to be killed in short order, to prevent them attacking other livestock. In many cases pack preadators were actively hunted because the represented a significant threat to agriculture, which why they're endangered now in so many places.

I don't think it's morally wrong, but I'd have difficulty with it simply because I've grown up with dogs for most of my life and dogs and cats are very much considered pets. They're part of the family. I could do it if it was an emergency situation, but I wouldn't be happy about it, and it certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

Just don't name them before you eat them, and it makes things easier. Probably. XD

Nope. Honestly i would love to try cat or dog meat. I am a cat lover btw. As long as the piece of meat on my plate is not my (or someone else his/her) pet I love to try different things(do not wanna eat something bonded with).

There's a tradition in Korea where they eat dogs. In China as well dog meat has been consumed since waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day (I'm talking thousands of years back in some dynasty). Being chinese I don't have any issues (in fact intend to) one day try out dog meat. Reason less people eat cats: they don't taste as good.

As for the "allegiance between species" thing. Yeah I can understand how it'll be messed up to eat your pet / some other person's pet / domesticated animals from a pet store. But dogs from the wild / on the street aren't exactly the friendliest.

Well I don't eat them but I'm not gonna demonize those that do.
I do draw the line at hunting and killing Dolphins or Elephants for whatever reason. Both are capable of self recognition as well as empathy for other species.

I read somewhere that animals that eat other animals have their blood chemistry changed and makes it poisonous for consumption
what you are talking about is know as mad cow and or kuru.

its when a species eats its own kind.
but don't worry most living humans today are immune to kuru(the human version of mad cow)
since your ancestors were cannibals at one point.
feel free to eat other people, you would be fine, probably.

Morally? No. Culturally? Yes. I've heard dog meat is quite nice, but I wouldn't eat it myself.

Considering that Pigs are supposedly smarter that Dogs and Cats, and yet we still eat them (well not those trying to keep Kosher or Halal, but that's for a different reason)

So I'd there's nothing wrong with eating dog or cat meat, just don't kill someone's pet to get some

No more wrong than it is to eat any other animal.

Though given that I have attachment to dogs and cats I'd not willingly partake in it.

I have no qualms about eating humans. So you can guess where I stand on this issue.

The only reason we don't eat cats and dogs is because we usually have them as pets so most people wouldn't be able to bear eating anything that reminded them of little Fluffy or Spot.

Dolphins are assholes. This is fact. They may have better self-recognition than other species, but that just means they end up crueler.

yep. aztecs ate alot of men. i think they let the meat rot for a while so it wouldnt be enjoyable to eat. as some sort of way to honor the dead.
