No, playing as a woman in 3rd person games gives me something nice to look at.
And half the time with male characters I cross-dress them because it's socially odd out here in the real world... well until I buy a kilt.

I certainly don't see anything wrong with it, as I do it myself quite often. In the majority of RPGs my male/female character ratio is usually at or very near to a 50/50 split. I really don't see why some people think it's a big deal. If I get "Why are you playing as a girl?" I'll usually just reply "Why not?" In fact, both of my complete playthroughs of Mass Effect were with female characters, purely because Jennifer Hale did the voice acting.

I find that I create female characters much more often than males ones.

Even though many games are called role-playing games, I find that not a lot of actual role-playing even applies.
Therefore, especially in the case of third person perspectives I want to look at something nice.

I think you have to be insecure in your masculinity (or some other issue) to have something fundamental against
playing as a character of the other gender.
If you took offense to that last statement, relax you're obviously taking it too seriously.
No, no, I do it regularly, it's my friends ( and other people) that seems to take issue with it. To me it's just getting the maximum out of a game, and other people (at least the ones I know) think it's strange.

That's why I took this question to the Escapist...and I'm pleasantly surprised at the result.

Your poll is horrible. Where's the "Do it in some games, see no problem"?
What he said. Seriously, though. There is no problem with it. Some games even offer different situations based on gender.
Like Mass Effect, wich I listed in my OP.

And for the record...the second choice is just that, but with a comical twist on it.

I'm male. and my favorite game is Tomb Raider. I figure if I'm going to look at a character all day, they might as well be attractive

God damn my man. Well, I personally have nothing against it, but I have never had a female character ever - I just don't feel comfortable.

But, if you want to do it - knock yourself out..

I do, just to see if the game changes at all.

Also, I picked the last answer in your poll, since all the other answers were weird.

Well I was using the word "you" in the lazy, general sense...that comment wasn't targeted at you ExaltedK9.

Also, I don't have anything against people creating characters of the opposite gender in MMO's either.
In fact I have made female characters in World of Warcraft...they were elves by the way.

I have no problem playing as a female character.

I can roleplay as both genders.
Though the females tend to be a lot more evil than my male characters.

I am unsure why.
That seems to be a reoccuring theme in this thread.

Apparently most people think women are evil...who would have thought?
