Is it wrong to automatically assume someone is heterosexual?

Generally where I'm from, it is normal to assume someone is hetro until proven otherwise. Is it that everywhere? Are these stigmas of "Everyone is hetro until proven otherwise" ignorant? I don't really feel ignorant, that's just sorta the way it is here. Additionally the homosexuals and other persuasions out there don't take offense to automatically believe someone is hetro until they tell you. I just want to see how it is in places outside of where I live.

So escapists, comments, thoughts? I would really like to know.

No.

The majority of people are straight. There is nothing wrong assuming someone is average (Until proven otherwise).

Nope, the majority of the population is heterosexual, therefore the average will be straight. The expected value of a sample is the average, so therefore it is logical for one to assume a random stranger is heterosexual.

As long as you aren't an ass about it, I don't think anyone would be bothered. They kinda know they aren't the majority

No, it's not wrong after all most people are straight and most homosexuals pretend to be straight (well at least most of the ones I know, my sister is gay so I know a lot of them), so no although it would be best not to make assumptions but sometimes it can't be helped.

If the person is gay then you'd be wrong, technically.

A majority of people are heterosexual so usually it's a safe assumption.

No, but in that same way you shouldnt assume someone is flamboyantly gay if they make it seem that way. Or even really draw attention to it. you also shouldnt try to "make" someone hetero.

Contrary to what most people think, gay people do not just jump on somoene they find hot and start going at it with a rainbow shooting out of thier ass as they do.

If they dress "normally" then of course you would likely assume they are hetero, it all depends on their appearance which of course is constantly judged unfortunately.I think the question you should be asking is if it's wrong to assume a guy is gay if he looks and/or acts feminine.

Statistically people are heterosexual. It isn't wrong to assume someone is. It is like assuming every girl isn't pregnant or isn't named Amber.

Yes, simply because you are making an assumption, correct or not.
Assumptions need to be made. I assume a person isn't going to come out of a crowd of people and stab me on my way to or at work. I have to make this assumption otherwise I would be very inefficient at said workplace.

No, it's the social norm so why wouldn't someone assume that?
As a bisexual male....I kinda got to agree with this. Strait is the majority.

Makes deciding who to flirt with a pain in the ass.
