I don't know much about comics because even though I might recognize most characters, the multiple dimensions and versions always made it too confusing. Anyways, to me it always seems like Lex Luthor is a bad guy out for control(present), a good guy trying to change the past(future/DC Universe Online), or just someone who does bad things for the greater good(present or future). Now, are most of the Lex Luthors evil, good, or somewhere in between?

The interesting versions of Lex Luthor are in between, but for the most part he either wants to be a god, acquiring vast amounts of power through technology, or the next Hitler by wiping out aliens and putting (non-meta)humans on top.

Even the stories were he plays a good(ish) guy tend to be because the destruction of Earth/Metropolis are detremental to his plans or because he wants to be the one to kill Superman.

Ultimatly Lex is, IMO, a power hungry little rat who'll use people as long as it suits him but toss them when they become inconvenient, if this helps others get ahead thats just a secondary effect and, unless you lucky enough to be superman, don't stand in his way, you'll be lucky if they find identifiable remains.

Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how many cakes this guy has stolen in his career? Lex Luthor isn't just evil, he's terrible.

Lex is just an asshole no matter how many ways you put it. When compared to Darkseid however he's a patron saint.

I heard one time he stole forty cakes! He stole 40 cakes! That's as many as four tens!

Also he's, like, the richest guy in metropolis! Couldn't he just BUY some cakes?!

Depends on the version, sometimes he ultimately wants to help the world but becomes jealous of the adulation superman gets. He usually become good if he has a reason such as a good hearted love interest, or an evil that he feel only he can stop. I think the only reason he really turns bad is because superman is the only one that offers him a challenge in life, give him a tough enemy who is evil then Lex will rise to the occasion.

I'm not sure, I think its from some kind of Superman-themed educational book, but I got it from 4chan :)

Delicious Cake-mind all up in this thread.

Also, yes, he is evil. No matter what "spin" you put on it, he has always acted with ill-will and malicious intent.

And the dude stole forty goddamned cakes. That's just TERRIBLE.

It apparently came from a dictionary in the 70's, with Lex under forty.

Lex's base personality is that of alpha-dog/capitalist. He just wants to own everything and sees little need for emotions.

Some versions of him mock emotions, some simply ignore them.

In D&D terms, he's a Neutral Evil as although he's insanely rich and powerful, sometimes he'll just break the law for fun.

Lex just won't see anything past his own immediate goals, and that aligns with this generations view of Evil.

(Even in DCUO he stole all of the future heroes powers to come back and own the world before Brainiac. He still wants to fight Brainiac - but that's because the Earth will be Lexcorps property. Not through any petty emotional concerns)

I would have guessed Lawful Evil, but I can see Neutral.

Didn't he also steal the villains powers as well?

He's not lawful though (by any stretch of the imagination). Any law that doesn't help him is "rewritten".

Well, the whole hero/villain bit went south when Skullface started bottling everything...

Dude has a Vendetta against Superman because some he stopped some raygun or another he was using for some nefarious purpose, causing an explosion, rendering him bald. Basically, he hates superman because he still has hair. He's too damn crazy to be evil. Actually, that seems like a decent way to determine which criminals in the DC universe are evil. If they're in Arkham, they're crazy, if they end up in Blackgate, their evil.
