Earlier this year, we saw both Megaman Universe and Megaman Legends 3 get cancelled. Megaman Legends 3 got cancelled because the creators think that the game would sell well. Also, while Megaman 9 sold well, Megaman 10 apparently didn't sell so well. On top of this, in Marvel vs Capcom 3, we didn't get Megaman, but Zero instead. It's signs likes these that make me question if Capcom is going to kill off Megaman. I'm not hating or anything, I like Megaman. I played Megaman 1,2,8,9, the Megaman Battle Network series, and I've seen all the Megaman T.V shows. It's just that it got me thinking about this stuff lately. When you get down to it, Megaman now of days is a cult franchise that not that many people know about. People outside of gaming know who Mario and Sonic are, and people are still playing their games. Again, not hating or anything.
What do you guys think?

Yeah, more or less.

Magaman sort of struggles along on the affection of long-time fans, but the series hasn't done a thing in years.

I my own humble opinion, Megaman may have strayed into the mainstream with TV shows and an expanded universe of games. He's never been as popular as some other key franchises though. The gameplay of a "true" Megaman game ala Megaman 9 for example, is so brutally difficult that many casual, (and some less than casual, but not quite hardcore), gamers are turned off by it. Megaman is retreating to the partial shadows for now. He isn't dying. A game with Megaman's level of difficulty will always finds its way back into gamers' hands, I think.

My guess is that Capcom is trying to kill the series off.

Every now and then, some important guy says, "I want to bring Rockman back" and they humor him for a bit and then close the associated projects.

There is a lot of potential for a great Mega Man game, but Capcom just doesn't seem interested.

Wait, I thought you have to be alive in order to be considered dead.

All joking aside, he might as well be. By my guess, most people that never played any game in the series would be put off that most of them are similar to each other, seeing as how the classic series status quo is fight 8 robot masters, explore wily's castle, defeat wily, rinse and repeat. Same could be said about the other series, excluding few titles. Of course, some would say that it's capcom's fault since they like doing these kinds of things for sequels in franchises, but I say it's because the series is still in a dying genre. Platformers are not the kings they used to be back in the day, now it's all about FPS or some other genre that comes close to it.

Yes Megaman has been dead for a while. All it takes to bring him back is to make a generally good game and then slap the Megaman Franchise all over it.

Quality is the essence of life for any franchise.

I refuse to believe that the Megaman franchise is dead. Yes, we are all hurt that Megaman Universe and Legends 3 were cancelled, but that doesn't mean that the blue bomber is down for the count. All that the developers need to do is give the products to a company that is willing to develop and publish the games (include the Megaman ZX franchise).

2 new Megaman games (9 & 10) have been released, so people still have an interest in Megaman games (albeit classic Megaman games). The only thing that we know for sure is that we may not see any kind of Megaman games for at least two years because of the push Nintendo is making to get people into the 3DS and WiiU. After people are onboard with the new hardware, Megaman may see the light of day once again.

Megaman is as dead as Sonic, the difference being that the former isn't a shambling corpse.

I still believe we'll someday see a classic styled Megaman X9. And as a huge Mega Man fan (I can't tell you how many Mega Man games I own, but its around 25, and my PSN avatar is Protoman) I'm ok with it if the series just ends here. I loved 9 and 10, but to be honest, they still weren't as good as 2, 3, or 4 in my opinion. The Blue Bomber's prime is past, the X series, is almost like the Highlander movies to me. The first one was epic, and from there the steadily go down and I get less interested.

I almost want to do a Rocky 4 Ivan Drago impersonation for this; "If he dies, he dies." It's sad, but ultimately good things need to come to an end before they just get painful.

"DRAGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
