I got my Xbox during the release week and to this date... No red ring of death. Not even any system errors or game crashes.

Is that abnormal? I haven't met anyone else who's system HASN'T failed on them. My theory is that it's satan-spawn incarnate; a deus ex machina of sorts.

No, it's not unheard of. Contrary to popular belief, not every 360 is a ticking timebomb. They've got a higher than average failure rate, but that's not a guarantee that every one will fail. Especially if you don't leave it on for long periods of time, and keep in in a well-ventilated area, there's a fair chance you won't have any problems.

I've had mine for 3 & 1/2 years without any problems. The community doth protest too much, methinks.

it's a miracle. But i view all early xboxes as time bombs. my 2007 model E errored on me last year. i just hope MS learned their lesson.

My launch console is still going as well. One I bought for my wife later red-ringed, but she fixed it. She's a techno-wizard.

Not completely unheard of. I never got the traditional Red Ring but did get hit with one of the more recent errors. The failure rate for the 360 peaked at close to 45%.

Recently most of my friends are having PS3 failures.

I got mine a few years ago and its fine. I have left it on for a few weeks when I went on a holiday and had no problems.

I bought my first 360 on the UK release day. It gave me five years of glorious service, and my second is still going strong. I don't know what people are doing to theirs to go through four in three years (or similar horror story).

Got my Xbox the day it came out in Australia, and it died on me maybe mid 2008. Microsoft repaired it for free though, and I have had any problems since.
I don't actually agree that the community exaggerated how bad this was; that you've avoided it thus leaves you in the minority, I think.

I think he's still in the majority. People don't report when everything is going well. When's the last time someone stopped by a mechanic just to tell him their car was running fine.

Got my xbox 360 six months after release, still no Red disk of death. However I did have problems with the disk reader because I used my xbox vertically and scratched a few games by moving the system while I was on. Thus I replaced it with one of those new slim xboxes, which is also working perfectly fine.

Lucky you. The first 360 I got, which I got a couple of months after it came out, immediately red ringed the first time I ever turned it on after unboxing it.

Replaced it with another one, red ringed.

Then another, red ringed.

I have one now, that failed yet again (Although not because of RRoD, but because of an E74 error, which seems to be basically on the same level as RRoD.)

I'm glad to hear yours hasn't gone through this. All this I'm going through might make you think I mistreat my 360's, but I really don't. It's just my luck I guess.

I personally think the Xbox 360 is one of the worst products I've ever owned. If it weren't for my friends, I wouldn't even bother repairing.

KILL IT WITH FIRE!

But seriously, if it's survived this long, it must be built with technology scavenged from an extra-dimensional time-travelling alien demi-god, or something like that.

I saw burn it and sing that incantation .

I heard that if you sacrifice a xbox 360 as an offering to the gaming god , he will making gMes bounty full and plenty until the next generation of video game consoles!

OT : my xbox360 has not redringed , and i do everything people say i shouldn't do . I once left my xbox on for 72 hours standing up with a game running inside and it didn't red ring ( i forgot to turn it off over a weekend ) and nothing happened ... I think the RROD is jusg a myth .

That's awesome that yours lasted so long. I've had four, methinks.

The first one was a few months after release, and it lasted one year. It was then repaired by Microsoft and sent back. It lasted about another year. After that, it just got replaced when I sent it back--that lasted about 6 months until it got some graphics card error. I sent it back. Got it back, but it would freeze after a while, so I traded it in at GameStop, got a new one. The disk tray wouldn't open (it was used, so I didn't mind so much), and I returned it, got an Xbox Elite for free, and I've had it for over a year now.

Mine's somehow doing the same, though I suppose it's since I don't play it quite so much as people I know that eventually broke theirs.

Oddly enough I've had to have 2 360s replaced. Neither of them red-ringed. One E74'd and one had the laser eye go bad. Both were replaced by Microsoft. I know that the original had some poor design choices and there was a much larger then acceptable failure rate. But there is plenty of them still hanging around.
