Yes he is. The story; on his way home my brother felt a little hungry, not staving, not famished just a little hungry. So to cure his hunger he thought that the best thing to do was, not walk the last 15 minutes to home, not find a corner shop and get something but to EAT A FLOWER! He bent down on the side of the road, picked up a dandelion and ate it. No lie. Please tell me that you think that this is as stupid and bizarre as I think. Also if you have any similar stories please tell. Maybe I will think this is less strange then.

I've seen weirder. Kids at our school would eat the tiny spiders, just because.

This is true, and I should of said this to start, he is 19.
There's always a first time.

More than once then you probably need to start pointing out that dandelions are of no nutritional value.

Yeah, your brother is pretty weird. The only problem is he is the harmless, exceedingly boring kind of weird. Eating flowers isn't even the kind of strange that would make me look at at the picture. Tell him he needs to up his game, a random on the internet is not entertained.

Pity the American dandelion. In countries across the world the dandelion is considered a delicious vegetable and is consumed with affection?and dandelion has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. In America, it is most often cursed as an irksome weed and is pulled, poisoned and otherwise generally maligned.

So apparently it's not really that weird. Also, I'm pretty sure there was that one episode of the Sopranos where Tony brings Uncle Junior some dandelions to eat. So yeah, you're brother needs to up his game if he even wants to be weird.

I actually am the brother in question here and I find it very unfair for Lewis to do all this and not give me a chance to defend myself so here is my side of the story. I was utterly and completely lost. I had taken what I thought would have been a short-cut to my house but turned out to lead me further away from it. I had no clue as to my whereabouts and even less of an inkling of how long it would be before I would get home. As I continued down a road, I had never heard of before, I started to get hungry and noticed a small bunch of dandelions beside me, I should also mention I had no money for actual food nor did I know where the nearest store was, so the choice was "Do I continue my trek hungry and hope I get home soon for nourishment or do I find out if a dandelion will be able to tide me over until I get home?". I chose the only logical option and it paid off. It didn't taste bad but it wasn't delicious, it took the edge off and so far I have had suffered no ailments or discomfort of any kind. I really don't see what the big fuss is about, I may eat the occasional lily here or a blade of grass there but it's not a regular thing, I was just curious. Frankly I find it weird that others wouldn't do the same.

So you went through all the trouble of making an account here for the sole purpose of justifying your actions and defending yourself from complete strangers on the internet?

I've got to say, that's a lot weirder than eating a dandelion.

I don't think it's weird at all. You know what IS weird? People seeing a guy eating a dandelion as weird. There are so many plants that are considered weeds these days, that actually have at least some form of either nutritional or medicinal value, that I wish there were more people like this guy. Dead-nettle, feverfew, yarrow, clover, field pennycress, plantain, and yes also dandelions are examples.

Nah, he's not weird. At least he's willing to try new things. So no, I don't think he's stupid or bizarre. Besides, I've seen people eat much worse stuff than a dandelion.

Not really, this is a pretty banal kind of weird. Not truely strange, just out of the ordinary. Perhaps if you live somewhere where fuck all happens, then this would be interesting, but on the internet this is not.

Assuming it is weird, why does it matter anyway. He's 19 he can eat whatever he wants. Unless it's something toxic, I wouldn't worry.

Brothers squabbling over the internet as random strangers decide the winner?
Count me in! But if there's a brawl there better be pics.

As for weird?
I'm gonna say no about the Dandelion part. Odd but not really all that weird.

This thread, coupled with the arrival of the brother, is fuckin great.

It's a bit strange, but I cant deny anyone the right to eat foliage. I've done it myself, out of curiosity. That light colored sap stuff in the stems of Dandelions is gross though, really bitter.

Way to go Lewis, he's been waiting forever to post an epic first comment, but nooooo, you had to go slander him and instead of posting the most bitchin first comment ever, it was just a silly defense against you

You are 19 years old and got lost less than 15 minutes away from your house, (I'm guessing a mile or two) Judging by your brother's talk of corner shops and your mention of no money for possible shops it was an urban area. You were not even able to pick out any landmarks or signs towards anything familiar when you stumbled across some weeds.
Presumably there were other people around walking past you in this urban area whom you could easily have asked for directions but you decided instead to pick the weeds out of the pavement and eat them for vital nourishment for the journey ahead.

Are you Bear Grylls?

Also you mention you eat the 'occasional lily'.
