PC gaming is far from dead. Steam, Minecraft, WoW, other MMO's and the popularity of RTS games that use the good old mouse and keyboard system won't just die because consoles are currently more popular.

I don't think PC gaming is dying.

But i think that traditional PC (big cases and all that) will MAYBE be a thing of the past soon.

If Tesla had lived long enough to "teach" humans how to store electricity in one of the layers of the atmosphere (forgot which one) than desktop PC's as we know them today MAYBE wouldn't even exist.

I tend to look at it this way:

If sheep exists (gamers), then there will always be someone to trim (rip us off) them.

Nope, just take a look at Steam.

Also the only reason consoles are doing so well is because they are becoming more and more like PCs. They're getting more customisable with attachments and memory storage (which they nicked from us). They're implementing multiple functionality into the consoles such as internet browsing and playing movies, which is stuff PCs did first.

What's more the RTS genre is still very much alive with Starcraft 2 recently released and a million more games. Even all my console owning buddys have played Rome Total War and a few of them play shitloads of Football Manager.

I like how in a couple of months that picture's going to need a severe update to the bottom right corner.

Get the fucking picture.

Actually, there needs to be a more modern version of the picture...

I'm a dirty, filthy console gamer, and even I know that PC gaming isn't dying. It's just not the favorite anymore.
Yeah pretty much this...

Is PC gaming ever going to be top dog anymore? Doubtful, too much hassle, too small screen and not enough people are good at it.
Does that mean it's going to die? Well, judging by the armies of hardcore PC gamers who still defend it, no.

I prefer consoles myself (which I know makes me a retarded second class citizen to many but whatever) but I'm confident PC gaming will survive.

It took a backstep to the new consoles, but it's still the main platform for the indie market, you can put out any freaky idea/project you have without fuss, and if people bite you could be making millions.
And Steam will keep it going even if all others scare away from it.

As long as pc's exist so will gaming on them. Hand held devices are gaining more and more popularity though. I'm more concerned with the death of the pc and the web which will most definitely kill pc gaming and freedom on the internet(through app stores).
death of the pc and the web? what do you mean?
Things like smartphones and ipads are replacing pc's. Eventually making pc's obsolete. As for the death of the web. People like the safety and quality control of app stores. But now you'll need approval to post something. It's a way for big companies to establish control without anyone even realizing it. I hope I'm being overly dramatic and both will coexist like they are now.

And, WE HAVE THE MMOS, WE HAVE MINECRAFT!
And RTS's

A good example of this was the Age of Empires 2 port to the PS2 all those years ago.
IT. WAS. AWEFUL!
And I say even though AoE is a bloody awesome RTS for the PC.

PC gaming has things that consoles can not hope to win over without a decent keyboard and mouse interface. Consoles will die before PC gaiming.

And neither are dying now.

My first facepalm of the day...

As these have already been mentioned, PCs still have a lot going for games, and I play on my PC more than my consoles we have. I still enjoy going on the ps3/360 a lot, been looking at Dead Space 2 and R.D.R.U.N. as of late, but PC is NOT dying. =/

Steam grows 200% yearly, is worth billions, makes more money per person then Google or Apple, is the biggest, best name in digital distribution, which is almost certainly going to be the biggest part of gaming before too long, is going to be getting into the console market with the PS3, and provides twice the profit to game developers then traditional distribution, ensuring that developers will want to use it. PC gaming through Steam may be smaller then consoles, but it is also stable, growing, and innovative. Business wise and player wise, it's a pretty good place to be, with the potential to give consoles a serious run for their money. But no matter what happens, it is and will remain a perfectly valid, enjoyable, and profitable option.

It's ok. Sure Steam helps, but Steam doesn't make games better. Indie games for PC are doing amazing, but other games, well, the PC version gets the shaft more times then not.

No, it's just going all digital. Pirates don't help but... that's been going on for so long, if it was ever going to do any REAL impact, it would have happened already. That's my hypotheses anyway.

*Puts on tinfoil hat*

I personally think that the only reason we are seeing less PC games in shops is because those shops get more money out of selling console games since console games cost more to buy.

*Takes off tinfoil hat*

PC gaming is fine, our games are just all digitally distributed now.

Pc gaming is something I have a love hate relationship with. I buy a game and love it the next one comes out and BOOM I need a new computer to play it. It's one of the most annoying things about PC gaming and It's not a problem you have with consoles.

It not that drastic, I had this computer for about eight years now and only need to think of getting a new one now as I cannot play any of the brand new ones. But the rest work perfectly.
