It's not pointless if you're in a boxing ring, therefore I vote "Depends on the situation".

No. Anybody can say whatever they want that does not give the right for physical fighting. Actions speak louder then words my friends.

After seeing how bad your spelling and grammar is, I'd say that administering a liberal beating was necessary.

Not if you use your elbows. Otherwise yes, it is pretty pointless.

... Oh right, wrong kind of point. It really depends on the situation I suppose. Fighting over verbal abuse is probably pointless in the long run.

it's not easy to take the high road when the other person in said conflict is hell bent on dragging you to the lower road every chance they get

Fighting is the only form of conflict resolution that ultimately matters. The threat of violence has done more for peace than all the diplomacy and bargaining in the world combined.

It's not "pointless", but it's also not "necessary". Sort of like junk food.

Ever since man figured out that big sticks hurt, pyshical fighting has been around. I do not agree, but try telling that to our leaders.

Intellectual discussion is for intellectuals. Not everyone IS one, so not every disagreement will be solved by words alone. I am an intelligent and imaginative person, myself, and I like a sane discussion. However, I am also a man of certain bulk and recognize that my physical capability exists for a reason. Some people don't like reason, and will - in fact - turn more violent, the more you make sense. So, in the name of your own self-defense, you'd better believe that it has a point, irregardless of how many people can agree to disagree.

I've never had to throw a punch at anybody in the last 19 years outside of a dojo. If you're smart, you don't ever need fists except in an emergency/self-defense situation, and even then there are usually better ways.

I voted for depends on the situation. Not many fights ever happen at my school, and the ones that do is usually the hardcore gangsta kids starting on the fully sick wog kids then fighting after school.

Depends.
If YOU want to try and talk things through, the other person might disagree. Sometimes fighting, preferably for defense, is the only option.

We are primal creatures. Always were, always will be. No matter how civilized or cultured we think we are, we still cant get past what is written in our DNA. Deep down inside we are all bloodthirsty, ravenous, warmongering, rape-fueled vessels of violence.

But on the topic at hand: sure, it may not seem necessary to squabble over trivial matters, but sometimes the other person is way out of line, and he is going to learn this the hard way.

As much as I hate to say it, physical fighting is often necessary. Especially in the wild when animals are competing for food/mates.
