It depends on the song. Rap is a complex thing, most have forgotten the fact that it was meant to an expression of emotion, even when that is a bit too real(violent). It's poetry, but I agree it's usually not young kid friendly. I really got into it when i was about 13, and I've loved it ever since. Well, not ALL of it. I'm also the only Black person I know who likes score/orchestra(Clint Mansell, Hans Zimmer) and some Rock.
The underground is where you get the true extremes. The ones who speak the truth, ones who copy the shit, and the ones who...I just can't explain(Bizarre,Horrorcore)
My favorite is really old school Eminem, the completely and utterly INSANE stuff, I don;t consider my self to particularly violent. I'd rather beat myself than a Woman. I will never use drugs(my other favorite is T.I) and mindless sex doesn't make that much sense to me. It hasn't corrupted me, and it only will if the person has no identity of their own or is already a little messed up. The sad excuses for lifeforms that are "Thugs""Gangstas" and "Real N*****" are just idiots with no hope or no mind. I hate them all. I tolerate lil Wayne because of his occasional gems, I hate Plies, Jeazzy, and most other Gangsta Rap,(even that was corrupted, NWA was talking about real struggle and how they dealt with it, it's me or them I guess)and I refuse to be called a "White boy" because of it. If they are all that people see when they look at Rap, then I fear for it.
(Didn't they say similar things about Rock and Books?)
Sorry for long post. Got heated for a second.
