Not really, but it does put some crazy ideas in their heads.

My theory is:
Kids are kind of impressionable so they'll try to copy whatever they find appealing, which can lead to some problematic situations.

Let us remember that music is not so different.

Kanye West, rapper, said "I ain't sayin' she's a gold digga, but she ain't messin' with a broke n*gg@."

Alan Jackson, country music star, said "If you wanna drive a big limosine, I'll buy the longest one you've ever seen. I'll buy you tall tall trees and all the waters in the seas, I'm a fool fool fool for you."

Both completely different music genres, and yet both are songs about boning chicks who are way too eager to spend your cash. The fact is, we're all interested in similar things. It's just how we pursue that interest. Every music genre has songs that talk about women and material possessions and drugs. The only reason rap gets such a bad rap is because they talk about things bluntly, without beating around the bush.

Kids will be bombarded with all kinds of media that might influence their behavior. But you can't blame the media itself for that. It's up to the parents to try to keep their kids away from the media that they don't agree with, or to be louder than the media they don't agree with. A parent should strive to be the biggest influence on their child's behavior. And if they feel their grip on their kid is threatened by music, their grip must not be very strong.

rap taught me about ghetto life and how it affected Biggie.
also about how women with large buttocks are better than women with small buttocks for sex.

I don't really have any problem with rap/hip-hop music, so much as the arrogant, capitalistic, homo-antagonistic, 'I am above criticism' culture of the hip-hop/rap music industry.

that exists in all sorts of musics, sadly.

When you see the douchebags walking about with their low shorts and they're wannabe black attitude. I barely see any black man act like that but they act like it anyway.

Thing is: If your mom still drives you to school, you're not a gangster. Also pull your goddamn pants up I don't need to see your underwear. No it's not cool I could pull down your pants in front of everyone without much effort. Also "tight" is not something a person says... Hold on let me look at a dictionary.

Okay I just looked and no where does it say that tight means "cool". Hell the only thing closely resembling a way to use it as a slang is when someone is drunk so you're calling things drunk all the time? That's strange. Also wipe that smug look off your face I want to pull your teeth out while cutting off that small speck you call "balls". Stop trying to threaten me too when I just kicked your friend's ass and don't boast about kicking my ass when you ambushed me with three people and cried when I punched you.

Like most things, I think it comes down to the details.

For example, compare this:

to this:

I wouldn't say that the latter is "bad for kids", but kids are rather impressionable bastards until they hit a certain age (I used to think that drinking tea was a problem thanks to my grandma, it doubling my chances of conception and all. then I actually had the gall to look up what "conception" meant. oh man...).

Worse case scenario, fuck everybody. It's what you like to listen to, and I'm sure the occasional f-bomb or weed reference isn't gonna traumatize the kid for life.

I wouldn't want my kids listening to crap music either, to be honest.

But to be serious for a second: That sort of music often has lots of swearing and sexual connotations and I really wouldn't want my 7 or 8 year old child hearing that sort of stuff, I personally think you're the one being intolerant.

Welp, Let's take a trip to my highschool!

You will automatically say "FUCK YES, IT KILLS SOCIETY"

Take a look at the 5 groups
The Nerds- (around 8 percent) We are not the bad people, we don't go around doing the dumb shit others do, though we have constant jokes about it.
Punks- (around 20 percent) Skateboarders, Pot Heads, Bob Marley Lovers, y'know, those sterotypical teenagers.
Douchebags- (around 40 percent) These are the kids obsesed with rap music, and trip over their shorts they wear them so low, funny thing is, none of them are black, though they all act like it. They also don't give a shit about school. they blatenly disregard school policies every chance they get. (They are the ones who get caught doing stupid shit.)
Hick-Douches (around 30 percent) (Note that this combines the normal "Country" person, and the douchebag verson) Again, like the douchebags, but with a country accent, and make me laugh even more when they try to act black, also wear 200 pound jackets when it is 80 digreese farienhiet outside.
and then the other 2%...

Who seems the most messed up out of all of them?
The douches.
What do they get "Inspired" by? RAP.
Your ignorant statements about the influence of rap clearly are dead accurate for an entire genre of music.
You're forgetting about those metal heads who sacrifice baby lambs and draw paintings of blood in their free time, and those pop music listeners who have sex all the time, and those country listeners who are all redneck alcoholics, and all punk listeners only care about giving the man the finger and fighting the system.
The songs do not determine how someone will be; rap music isn't the main inspiration, it is the glorified gangs that inspire kids to act like that. Rap just helps. Stop being so incredibly ignorant and biased towards rap music when you have CLEARLY only been exposed to a very small sample of it.
The more I'm thinking about it the more I'm getting the feeling that your 8% should be labelled the "douchebags".

It depends on the song. Rap is a complex thing, most have forgotten the fact that it was meant to an expression of emotion, even when that is a bit too real(violent). It's poetry, but I agree it's usually not young kid friendly. I really got into it when i was about 13, and I've loved it ever since. Well, not ALL of it. I'm also the only Black person I know who likes score/orchestra(Clint Mansell, Hans Zimmer) and some Rock.

The underground is where you get the true extremes. The ones who speak the truth, ones who copy the shit, and the ones who...I just can't explain(Bizarre,Horrorcore)

My favorite is really old school Eminem, the completely and utterly INSANE stuff, I don;t consider my self to particularly violent. I'd rather beat myself than a Woman. I will never use drugs(my other favorite is T.I) and mindless sex doesn't make that much sense to me. It hasn't corrupted me, and it only will if the person has no identity of their own or is already a little messed up. The sad excuses for lifeforms that are "Thugs""Gangstas" and "Real N*****" are just idiots with no hope or no mind. I hate them all. I tolerate lil Wayne because of his occasional gems, I hate Plies, Jeazzy, and most other Gangsta Rap,(even that was corrupted, NWA was talking about real struggle and how they dealt with it, it's me or them I guess)and I refuse to be called a "White boy" because of it. If they are all that people see when they look at Rap, then I fear for it.

(Didn't they say similar things about Rock and Books?)

Sorry for long post. Got heated for a second.

I see no problem. It's the same stuff as you see on the news every evening, but without the pleasant wording.

I think a better question to ask is "Is the Rap/Hip Hop culture good for society?" Some parts, yes, some parts no. Then, how do we fix the bad parts, and promote the good.
Goes for everything really...

Well, maybe a bit, in the same way that violent games are bad for kids who aren't mature enough to handle it. If they're mature enough at their age (no matter what that age may be) to accept the violent lyrics as fiction, then no harm done.

The kid is probably a sophmore in high school. He has no idea how to grasp the concepts you're throwing at him.

OT: You're just as guilty of having no common courtesy as the woman is guilty of being an overprotective parent with an axe to grind. If the story is to be believed, she was being forced to listen to your (in my opinion) garbage music for more than a few seconds because you're unable to notice that the jack on your headphones came unplugged.

That in and of itself leads me to think that your self-important attitude is skewing the story quite a bit.

Personally I think that this type of music is a bad influence for everybody.
...
I fooled you, didn't I?
I have AC/DC on my MP4.
Refering to the question, I don't think that this type of MUSIC [b\] is bad for young children, 'tis that some of the lyrics are not so healthy.

No it's not "bad" for kids. People said the same thing about jazz, and then blues, and then rock and roll, and then punk, and then pop, and then metal, and then.......you get the point. This has been happening throughout music history, a newer genre of music pops up, the older people don't like it being different, they protest it.
well jazz artists (despite being involved w/ some shady subcultures) don't tend to verbally advocate things like rape or killing that ************ who's out to get me in their songs. lots of rappers condone (or at least depict) shitty poor people drug culture and tony montana shit, much like a lot of black metal dudes talk about nazi bullshit and do a lot of tremolo picking to blast beats. it'd be safe to assume random moms would hate both roughly the same for similar reasons.
Well you can't just say it's a rap thing. There's ton of death metal that talks about suicide and killing people. And 40-50 years ago when Black Sabbath was talking about the Devil that was today's equivalent of condoning murder in the eyes of the older generation. You can't just generalize rap music into talking about murder and gang wars. That's just the stuff that sold based on the principle of controversy

see, it depends what kind of 'person' you are to be infleunced by certain 'things' from certain types of music. there kids listening to any type of 'music' to a degree is there parents responsibility. but i can see in your instance, the fault could be blamed on someone else. if the parents actually taught there kids right from wrong, then they should be fine. after all only the person who did the actions can be blamed for the actions, either that or blessed.

P.S: I feel I should mention this woman was probably the whitest person I've ever seen, excluding albinos. Just thought I'd throw that info out there.
What does her race have to do with anything?

Rap is crap, sorry. Not all of it, some are actually fairly amusing (if clean and thought-provoking). And for your question: is it bad for kids? No. Is all the swearing, women-beating, rape, and other crap that's put in it? Yes.

Lastly, if someone asks you to stop having some song blaring loudly with curse words in it in front of their child, don't be a jerk, just put the dang ear buds back in and forget about them. Seriously, the only person I see here who's really causing a problem was you.
