It's up to you whether it's worth getting Steam. Though this forum is a bad place to ask, it's flooded with Valve/Steam fanboys. There are a few Steam exclusive games and a few good sales on Steam. Just remember a few things: Steam can be a little unstable and buggy sometimes, regular prices on games are sometimes more expensive there, and Steam games are not fully yours since though it's rare Steam can ban you from your account if they think it's been hacked or for other reasons at their discretion.
Ah yes all those Valve fanboys. Translation. People who like dont think Steam is evil and like valves games. Crazy fanboys. There are more people on here that ***** that steam is satans rental service then are valve fanboys.
Read better. I'm not calling Steam evil. I use it myself for a few games. But, I also know it's not perfect. And, all my purchases I keep to under $10. I've had a friend loose a few hundred dollars worth of games on an account he was banned from. I've had Steam refuse to let me play a few games in offline mode as it should. I'm not some rabid hater, but I'm not some petty fanboy either like you seem to be when you get pissed just because I wrote some facts you did not like.
Calling a forum full of fanboys would seem to disagree with you not being a "hater".

I didn't read your problem but I don't think it could be worse than mine (forgot password for a long time + no real steam support because I didn't do my recovery stuff properly)

When about 15 games go on sale for 50$ for the lot, where if I were selling them to gamestop I would probably get MORE than 50$ for them, Steam is definitely worth it.

No it's just simple fact. A great majority of this forum tend to think Valve games are the greatest thing known to PC gaming, and Steam by extension the greatest digital distribution service in the world. The fact that anyone that offers a divergent opinion is quickly jumped upon sometimes doesn't really help with that opinion. I love the Portal games and liked the first Half-Life game as well as the first Left-4-Dead, everything else has been either mediocre or doesn't interest me. Valve is a fairly good developer, Steam is an OK service as long as you read the EULA and know what you are getting. But Valve fanboys are a group I lost my patience with a long time ago. So yes I'm a hater of that group but not of Steam which is what you originally accused.

Yes. That is all.

Though due to the low content post rules have enclosed a dirty limerick for your delectation.

There was a young lady from Ealing
Who had a peculiar feeling
So she lay on her back
Opened her crack
And pissed all over the ceiling

Your welcome

Remember with steam you are just licensing games. If you play games once and then never touch them again sure steam is good, not great but good. If you want to be able to pick a game up in 10 or 20 years and play it again then steam is not so good. It is better to go with gog, or for newer games a place like gamersgate, because if these companies go under or discontinue your game you still have your install file, you OWN the game. It is also nice not to have to startup steam every time you play a game.
This being said, I still do buy games on steam if they are under $4 and significantly below anywhere else's price.

It has free games (one of which is actually good now) and it allows me to chat with friends. It'll do.

Yes, it is VERY worth it, it's free, it has pretty excellent service, you get dozens of free demos, and if you buy a game on steam and get a new computer later, you can just go to your account and install it again, no worrying about scratched or lost disks.

Really? because I forgot mine and put in my email and got password recovered with no problem...

BREAK BREAK

There is always the possibility of getting banned and there are horror stories like in everything. Oh well. Honestly, if steam banned my I would be crack hunting because I bought those games dammit. In reality I don't expect steam to disappear and render games unusable and if you let steam update then you can play all games offline without a problem. I regularly play offline and have never had a problem.

I got it for team fortress 2. I'd continue to tell more about it but I need to go back to playing.
bye.
This man is the messiah, trust his words
Ummmmmmm. why am I the messiah?
I figure I'd be more of an accidental Martyr, stumbling around until I say something cool and then people agree, I later die for a stupid reason and am made an example.
sort of like Monty Python's Life of Brian.

Now this may seem like a silly question to most of you but..... is Steam worth getting? the reason I ask is I do want to get Steam its just Steam is having none of it. I can't create a new account, I just end up going round in an endless loop of ''Failed To create Account'' messages and I cant find my old account for many many years ago

Is it worth going all this hassle for? or even has any one else had this type of issues with the uncooperative bugger?
Message Steam support.

The word "Yes" should be constructed in 100 feet concrete and rolled in with fanfare blasting in the background.

And I think I might have stole that joke from Yahtzee, I'm not sure.

Let me answer you with a record of some of my purchases on Steam, retrieved from confirmation emails:

Counter-Strike: Source + Garry's Mod - $6.24
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - $2.49
Potato Sack (bundle, 13 indie games) - $33.62
Team Fortress 2 - $Free
Portal - $Free
Bioshock - $4.99
Left 4 Dead + Left 4 Dead 2 - $10.19

31 games total. Cost: $57.53, less than a good new game.

The oldest buy of those is from last Halloween. All of that is within the last year. I don't feel like calculating how much that is, but I estimate it to be approximately one metric fuckton of money.

Yes. Steam is worth it.\

Yes yes yes oh god yes.

The deals are incredible.

I picked up the entire THQ pack for the DoW2 games for cheaper than it would be to buy just those 3 games with a discount!

Got a few games for probably more than 75% off, ahhhh, that's a ten-four good buddy.
Exactly why Steam is worth the trouble to install... I've been busy in school the last few years, so have not had the time to game.

Mass Effect: $5
ME2: $7.99
Fallout 3: $10
Torchlight: $5
Oblivion: $5

$32.99 for those 5? That's some good gaming for minimal price. Heck, Duke4 is also on for 50% off right now... not sure it's worth that much, but I'll find out.
I got mine gifted, but I got AvP, Darksdiers and Monday Night Combat, and I managed to get 3 things with the ticket booth. So my friends probably spent ...14 bucks total on those games, I paid them back with a few games that were pretty damn cheap too.

If there's a reason to not get steam I suppose it would be "I don't have a computer" since their sales are insane.
