So someone I know is talking about how the 360 tends to self destruct, and is complaining of it's terrible quality, when mine is used and yet had not one fault in it, and I've had it 7 months.

Also, how used? Used as in 5 hours a day used?

I also bought a used one, worked fine at the GameStop I bought it in.

Brought it home to a surprise Red Ring of Death party. At least I also got the insurance...

Second 360 is still kicking, though.

I had mine for a little more than a year and it broke down, and everyone I know who's had it for the more or less the same time as me has had the same problem. But I still enjoy my 360 and wouldn't trade it for any other current-gen console.

The thing is so far I've only heard about old units breaking. There is a good chance that in the new units the problem is fixed. However the new chipsets haven't been out in the market long enough to get a good failure rate. They could all explode in two years, but we wouldn't know because it hasn't been two years since the introduction of the new chipsets.

The whole Xbox debate seems to be biased towards people whose Xboxes have broken down, simply from the fact that they're more likely to go to forums and complain, answer surveys about Xbox errors, etc. The Xbox is no more likely to die then any other console, it just has a much nicer way of telling us about it (the red lights).

That's why.

I've got a friend who babied his xbox as if it was a terminal patient. He took every precaution humanly possible, and then some. His xbox got the red ring after two years.

OT: The xbox 360 has an embarrassingly bad death rate, but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to me, and reports are saying the death rate is decreasing. Besides, free repairs.

EDIT: Whoops, I didn't notice the "Used" part. Perhaps it wasn't used for very long?

I got my 360 a couple of months after release, it RROD'd after about a year and a half, got it repaired on warranty and its been fine since. I think its actually louder and runs a bit hotter than it used to but its sticking in there.

I've had mine since 2006, and it hasn't broken down yet--but then again, I haven't really pushed it too hard. I usually buy the PS3 versions of games whenever possible (partly because of the RRoD risk, and partly because I spent two whole paychecks to get the last backwards-compatible PS3 in Baton Rouge and dammit, I wanted my money's worth). So I only have, like, five 360 games now.
