Poll: Is the 360 as destruction prone as everyone claims?

I have this strange theory that people who play with their 360s laid horizontal have a higher burnout rate than people who place it vertical. I know of two 360s that RR and both those guys laid them horizontal.
Mine on the other hand, has been kicking since a month after launch, not a single problem. I, and everyone else i know that hasn't had a problem, keep ours vertical. IDK if it actually matters but in my experience there is a correlation, maybe not a causation, but still.

Mine lasted two and a half years before it crapped out, and that was with a lot of use. With earlier consoles, lasting that long then dying wasn't that big a deal. I think the RRoD just gets so much hate now because it's Microsoft, who must be evil because they're a big company who want to make money, and because people don't like to have their console die on them (fair enough, but with a three year warranty for the RRoD, it doesn't really matter, since earlier consoles that lasted that long were praised for it rather than it simply being the norm).

Had an early version that red ringed after about 1 year of (relatively) high use and a few minor problems along the way, replacement has had no problems at all so far.
Can't help but feel that at least some of the early overheating examples were caused by achievement hunters, Dead Rising 7 day survior anyone?(meaning a minimum of 14 hours of the 360 being constantly on, likely much more due to breaks, oh and loading time isn't counted either).

I thought the problem with standing them up was that they'd scratch the hell out of the discs. Mine's been horizontal since I got it, and it's done alright...grimsprice said:
The failure rate is about 54%. You have a better chance of flipping a coin and getting it right than you do getting a good x-box 360. Doesn't make the system any less worth it. Get a long warranty. Mine's three years.
I haven't had any scratched discs. But then again mine in on a very level table and doesn't shake at all or anything like that.dreadedcandiru99 said:

I had my first one for over a year, no problem, then RROD and I got my second one, which is still fine. In the same period a friend of mine has been through 6, and may be heading for 7 by Christmas, and I use mine considerably more as well.
Sometimes you just get unlucky, or lucky. It does have confirmed problems though, which Microsoft have admitted to.

it took mine about 2, 2-and-a-half years to die on me the second time. The first time, it died about 4 months after being opened
Yes, for the older models. I swear I used to wish my Xbox would Red ring because I knew it would and if it was after the warranty then I would not be a happy camper. And it did. Twice. Thankfully I think the warranty for red rings and such renews every time it is repaired.

As far as I know, on all systems Microsoft has a 3 year warranty covering RROD and E74 errors, and a standard 1 year warranty for anything else. I bought a launch 360, and it RROD'd about 2 years after I got it. I got a warranty replacement that RROD'd about a year after that. I got another warranty replacement, but I traded it in to get an Elite Halo 3 bundle. After selling the old system, Halo 3, the wireless component and my old HDD, the total cost to me for the Elite was $220, but for that I got HDMI, a 120 GB HDD and a brand new headset and controller.
Yes they break down, not as often as people claim, but MS has you covered unless you abused it. I never went more than a week without my system, which is perfectly manageable, for me anyways.
Anything with a manufacturing date after September 2008 has an acceptable failure rate in line with Nintendo and Sony.

Whatever you do, just do not buy the intercooler with the fans. It's loud, and it cuts up the 360. Don't even use one.
I've had mine for well over a year and I've never had any problems. Most people who have had problems with theirs always set it on the long side and it overheats.
