I?ve had mine since Christmas 2005, zero problems. Sometimes I play it 8 hours a day, sometimes I don?t play it for weeks at a time, depends how much I?m into the game that I?m that I have, or the time of year. I love it, wouldn?t trade it for the world. Could be because I?ve never been on Xbox live, but I don?t know what that would have to do with it.

yes, unfortunatly. i love my xbox, but its made of glue and prayers.
well said, and I couldn't agree more. Every time my Fallout 3 freezes (a very buggy game, indeed) i have to hold my breath and pray that my Xbox doesn't hasn't contracted the dreaded red ring fever (i've said RRoD too much and now it sounds redundant)

I had to replace an Xbox, but that was due to a faulty power cord, not the infamous red ring of death. I've had my current one for about a year now and it still works fine.

Thankfully I had a warranty and ended up better off since the new one came with a hard drive 6x the size of my original.

The arcades generally have a higher failure rate, especially ones with the old mother board. Saying that, I went through 3 xbox 360 pro consoles. XD

I'm still on my launch 360, and even my PS3 is louder than it. I've only known two people in RL that have had their system rrod on them, and still, this is out of at least fifteen people that have the system.

I have this strange theory that people who play with their 360s laid horizontal have a higher burnout rate than people who place it vertical. I know of two 360s that RR and both those guys laid them horizontal.

Mine on the other hand, has been kicking since a month after launch, not a single problem. I, and everyone else i know that hasn't had a problem, keep ours vertical. IDK if it actually matters but in my experience there is a correlation, maybe not a causation, but still.
You know, you might have something there, because apparently the RRoD problem is caused by the motherboard getting far too hot and bending a little bit, which would obviously upset a lot of very sensitive things. But if its standing up, the motherboard would be sideways, making it less likely to bow in the middle..

Mine 360 is sideways too, and I've had the RRoD twice. Both pretty recently though, which isn't bad for a machine that's second hand, very well used and many years old. The towel trick sorted it out both times, but, apparently it isn't permanent. Might have to get a bit more complex with the remedies soon.. I ain't buying a new one 'cos I got this one for just £100!

No, not at all. Newer model 360s breaking down are actually pretty rare. I know a lot of guys who have purchased 360s just a couple of months ago (generally the same time) and none of them have had nay problems at all, plus I know plenty of others who are using the original model 360s, and most of them don't even know what RRoD stands for. Coincidence? I think not.

If you bought yours two years ago or so it may have a 60% change of going RRoD but then again maybe not. My friends who bought theirs a few years ago have needed to get them repaired but after theat they run pretty smoothly. If you buy one nowadays it has a relatively low chance of RRoD and they're also getting cheaper too.

So basically now is the best time to buy a 360!!!

I've had mine for.... 3 or 4 years now, and the only problem it has is the disk drive not wanting to open. Ever.

But aside from that, it's been fine.

Same. And my sister accidentally left it running for an entire weekend. It's perfectly healthy.

i got mine for christmas, it's worked fine ever since then, although i have never put it online, it gets a decent amount of use every couple of days or so at the moment but there have been times that i havn't touched it for weeks and times i have spent 20+ hours over a weekend on it

Mine broke, but that probably because I played for over 4 hours at a time regularly. I had 3 rings though, so it didn't really matter anyway.

I love my 360 to death, but it is very prone to breaking. I've gone through 3 of them since 2006. That's not even the bad part, the worst is how freakin' long it takes for Microsoft to repair it. It's literally almost better to just buy a new one. You pay 100 bucks more, but don't have to wait almost a month to get the system back.
