The RROD isn't nearly as big of a problem as it was a few years ago. I've had my xbox for over two years now and I haven't had any problems aside from the occasional freeze.

I've only known two people in RL that have had their system rrod on them, and still, this is out of at least fifteen people that have the system.
2/15 is a pretty appalling failure rate mate...

So someone I know is talking about how the 360 tends to self destruct, and is complaining of it's terrible quality, when mine is used and yet had not one fault in it, and I've had it 7 months.
Also, how used? Used as in 5 hours a day used?
That's a joke, right?

Mine was alright for the first couple of weeks, but then something started to seem wrong. It had always had a drink or two to relax. Now it was going through cases of beer, bottles of vodka.

It started coming in late and started messing around with used consoles, as well as other unsavory electronics. Eventually we had to have an intervention for it and sent it to a Circiatric Facility. I haven't seen it since.

Even Microsoft didn't deny that The 360 had a failure rate of around 54%. I can't find the link to the article though..

The RROD is because of overheating. I dont do gaming marathons or hours on hours of playing. Also I could just buy a RROD repair kit on Trade Me (NZ ebay)

OT:I got mine and its working fine.

I think this is the article [http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/43724/98/] you mentioned. The gist of it is this:

When Microsoft was presented with Gameinformer's survey that showed a 54% failure rate of Xbox 360s, a spokesperson replied "Microsoft stands behind the Xbox 360 as a superior entertainment console with one of the best warranties in the industry," and "Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of 'most played console'".

So maybe Microsoft couldn't afford a competent spokesperson, but IMO I've seen n00b governments spin better BS.

As for the failure rate itself, I don't doubt it's high compared to the PS3 but there are a great number of variables. Considering that the issue is the overheating of the motherboard, you have to factor in length of use, intensity of use, and most of all, cooling. Remember that the X360 is a powerful piece of hardware crammed into a small casing with pathetic heat management (small enclosed space and heat-insulating plastic casing). I mean, just imagine the survival rate of a full-spec, overclocked PC gaming rig cooled with two 2"-fans.

So take proper care of your X360. Clear it of excess dust, especially the vents, don't leave it in a video cabinet, don't stack things above it, etc. And get a replacement with the Jasper chipset if you can. Just in case.

I baught my xbox like 3 weeks ago and i dropped it the other day, the HDD came out but i put all back togethor...
How can you put an "all" back together? And since when was all an object? And if an xbox's hdd comes out that doesn't mean it magically overheats and gets the RRoD.

75% of the time when I turn it on, it makes a noise like a chainsaw revving up.

To qoute what someone else said: yes for older models, no for newer models. Sadly, mine is a somewhat older model.

My ps3s been used 4-6 hours a day and its been 7 months.
I GUESS ITS UN-FUCKING-STOPPABLE.
I agree. I've had my PS3 for about a year and a half now, and I play it around 3-4 hours a day. I've never had any issues with it, or even heard of anyone having issues with theirs. It has to be the most reliable piece of technology I have ever owned.

My Elite died just after 1 year, and i only had a year warranty on it; typically.

Wasn't a RROD either so i have to pay... going to keep my warranty on at all times after this though. Sending it for repair this week, does anyone remember if you got some warranty time when you paid for a repair?

Have it for almost a year. Playing almost every day, sometimes 1-2 hours , sometimes 10 . The only bad thing is that it froze, about 5 times though. That's it. I'm very pleased with it.

I dunno really, my PS3 has certainly proved un-reliable after dying... =\ but still, I have heard stories of people having to go through 6 360's before, so I wouldn't be suprised if it was true... such widespread criticism generally has a reason afterall.

I would be on my third xbox - The first one died, they replaced it. Then it was all good for a bit then this one died, and now I just can't be chewed getting it fixed now :(

the people things complain about are often easily fixed. and turning down a console because you shouldnt drop it seems rather stupid to me.

I have this strange theory that people who play with their 360s laid horizontal have a higher burnout rate than people who place it vertical. I know of two 360s that RR and both those guys laid them horizontal.

Mine on the other hand, has been kicking since a month after launch, not a single problem. I, and everyone else i know that hasn't had a problem, keep ours vertical. IDK if it actually matters but in my experience there is a correlation, maybe not a causation, but still.
I had mine vertically first it broke then horizontal it broke again. I just keep it horozontal sosomeone doesn't knock it over (which has happened).
