Poll: Is the 360 as destruction prone as everyone claims?

My Elite died just after 1 year, and i only had a year warranty on it; typically.

Wasn't a RROD either so i have to pay... going to keep my warranty on at all times after this though. Sending it for repair this week, does anyone remember if you got some warranty time when you paid for a repair?

Yeah, it comes with another year warranty and usually a month of xbox live.

Thanks, sort of makes me feel better about spending £80 to get it repaired... Still, it should teach me not to loan my xbox to people.

I know someone who bought one at launch and that still works perfectly fine.

By contrast, the PS3 I bought only lasted four days before it broke.

So someone I know is talking about how the 360 tends to self destruct, and is complaining of it's terrible quality, when mine is used and yet had not one fault in it, and I've had it 7 months.

Well, it depends. It seems that the first so many shipments of 360s had a problem with the motherboard which, due to overheating, led to components melting off, and that is, yes, the cause of the red ring o' doom. However, they've got a very good repair/substitute system, so I think it makes up for it. Besides, they aren't making defective 360s anymore. On the other hand, the reason why so many people get red lights is, of course, because they didn't know it till it happened. It's a problem that will eventually erase itself. And if not, we can always make them give us new systems.

That's realyl not very long. I had mine 22 months before it broke. Everyone I know who has had one for a year or more has had it break, usually more than once. That points to it being not "if" but "when" IMO.

Maybe it's just me but my current 360 is my 3rd. I actually quit playing it since I started college, but often times I feel that that's the only thing that's making it functionable.

I've played mine quite a bit, and had it for almost 2 years and I have had not one problem, apart from Bethesda games freezing. >.<

I've only known two people in RL that have had their system rrod on them, and still, this is out of at least fifteen people that have the system.

2/15 is a pretty appalling failure rate mate...

Really? Then you'll be shocked to know that out of maybe ten friends that own PS3s, four of those have died on them in some way or another. Couple of ylod and a couple of blue ray drive failures. And this happened after their one year warranties were up, so they had to buy a new system, and then the price gets dropped after.

Older sucks, newer better. But in the end all the consoles have issues when they come out. I heard of the 360 overheating, RRD, scratching cds, power failures. Ps3 cracking discs, graphics would be distorted, game would lag, power failures too. They all had their issues coming out, but the new ones are better. Plus the newer 360 (with a certain serial number) are way better. Cant remember serial number.

I don't know a single person who hasn't been through at LEAST 2 360's.

I bought one in Novemeber of 2007. I have had yellow and a three parts of ring red but it still works. Played about 6-7 hours daily exepct weekends.

I'm on my 4th. I hear it's due to fairly new laws that prohibit lead based solder. The alternative is safer but less reliable. Some claim that taking a hairdryer to a broken 360 can melt the solder back into place(with a little luck)and leave you with a completely functional console. Whether this is true or not, I couldn't say with certainty.

360s tend to die easly coz of a low spec cooling system. open'd one up to fine and intake fan sat ON TOP of the extraction fan. the 360's sole problem is not enough cooling, ad an extra extraction fan and give it some air flow and it would run for years and years

It's become a bit of a joke, so it's bound to be exaggerated obviously. Mine hasn't broken yet.

So far i've had my Xbox 360 since January and have had no problems so far. Just so dust doesn't settle in i check every now and then and plan an 1 or 2.

I'm on my 3rd. One mate is on his 2nd, another one is on his... 7th? But he bought 3 new ones just for the heck of it. Not because the old ones broke. At least they get units sold. TBH I don't know a single person who hasn't had at least 2 360s. But mostly we stick with PC because it's the best.

I think a big majority of X360 owners has suffered at least one dead box. The ones, like me, who got one at launch... I'd say 97-100% has had at least one box die on them. Like the suckers we are we still buy them don't we?

My latest 360 is just collecting dust so I can't really give you an answer. But from past experience: Yes, they are of terrible quality.

I had mine for two years before it broke. Then I got it back and it broke again about a year later. I have many friends who have 360s and they have all had the 3 red lights; some multiple times. So as much as I love the 360, the hardware sucks and breaks a ridiculous amount.

I have this strange theory that people who play with their 360s laid horizontal have a higher burnout rate than people who place it vertical. I know of two 360s that RR and both those guys laid them horizontal.

Mine on the other hand, has been kicking since a month after launch, not a single problem. I, and everyone else i know that hasn't had a problem, keep ours vertical. IDK if it actually matters but in my experience there is a correlation, maybe not a causation, but still.

I have kinda switched between vertical and horizontal and had it for about a year now. Only issue I have had with it is that it has frozen couple of times.
