This is just idiotic. You want to punish a successful franchise for being successful. I have no great love for CoD (any of the 8 that are on 360) but I don't believe in stopping others from enjoying it. It's existence doesn't stop other games from coming out. And believe it or not, the Modern Warfare series actually has an ongoing story throughout the three games.

Would you have stopped Ubisoft from telling all of Ezio's story in the last three Assassin's Creed games?

If people want to play Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, FIFA, Madden, Need for Speed or any other successful franchise I think they should be able to enjoy it. I would recommend that people try out a variety of different games because they may have overlooked some great experiences but I wouldn't stop them from enjoying their hobby by taking away something they like.

I saw the trailer for Black Ops 2 today and i got to give it some props for having the balls to go in to ground Cod hasn't stepped in before. However Ghost Recon Future Soldier which is coming out very soon, and has been in development for several years. My point is that that putting those three fucking words in front of any gaming title is casting a massive shadow over all other titles that i believe have more original content and development companies with better buisness models. Now that there are 2 "Future Warfare" FPS games coming out this year (GR being the first), people will hold back and just wait for black ops because it's call of duty, and you know that it's going to be a safe choice because the gameplay will be almost the same as the other 5 games. It's sad because it's going to limit the Online community numbers and it's sad that this will all happen because of those 3 words in front of your title. Those 3 words have the power to make up some peoples minds on which game to buy.

Bottom line Call of Duty is become such a behemoth in the gaming industry that they're too big and created a corrupt buisness model that should not be seen as the norm for gaming developers. They have too much control of the console market(maybe PC a little),limiting growth in the gaming community as a whole.

If you can show me a BETTER current gen arcady-realistic shooter (not named BF3) than COD, I'll promise to not buy Black Ops 2.
How about "BFE"? At least, in some ways, it's a lot more realistic than Call of Duty.

And it might be kind of "Arcady".

if game company's were smart they would release their games in the summer to avoid having to compete with call of duty, because the call of duty games are so good and so popular your game is going to be crushed by it (and for good reason call of duty games are very good especially the treyarch ones)
Must............. resist........ urge........ to.......... hate......

*starts watching some random funny kingdom hearts video*

Ahhh.... I think I'm gonna be ok now.

OT: I believe that gamers like us will look at games that we like (seriously Dishonoured looks awesome) while those casual gaming sheep will buy it cause it's popular. Hipsters gonna hip.

No because the people that just buy CoD wouldn't buy other games if there was no CoD. The only thing it affects is that people will be wait awhile to buy some other games around the same time. To be honest if you do release a new IP no one has heard of before around Christmas anyway you should be beaten with stick for being stupid. You'd think they'd know that is a bad idea rather than releasing it during the dry months of summer where there is little to no big competition.

CoD is actually getting people (like me) to try other games.
Let me tell you a story.
A couple of years ago my wife brings home a CoD game all her friends are playing. Before then I never played a CoD and I had played few games like that. The closest thing like that which I got into was Unreal Tournament back in the day and that game was much different. I really enjoyed it and thanked the Mrs for bringing it home.

FF to several months ago; I feel like getting a new shooter like the CoD game we have. SO I rent MW3 & BF3. MW3 let me play the entire game (most of which was just plain fun) while BF3 had all but the lackluster campaign locked for an additional $10. Guess which one I bought.

I'd say I'm a CoD fan but I'm not exactly going to buy every yearly installment nor do I look down on anyone who would because it may just be their thing. If anything, CoD has gotten me to try out other military style FPSs that I wouldn't have looked at before and I'm sure I'll be renting GRFS and BO2. And if MW3 dries up for me by then, I might even buy one of them.

Your problem with CoD is a lot like the Publishers' problems with the used game market: I don't think you realize that the purchase you don't necessarily approve of right now could lead to many purchases that you would approve of in the future.

I don't think so. It's just attracting more people to games - some of those people might try out less mainstream games, some might not. I personally got involved properly in games because of Halo, but nowadays COD is the cool thing drawing new players in. They're good games as well, despite all the haters.

Personally, I think that the popularity of CoD has actually helped the industry. With the billions of dollars Activision gets, they're allowing more and more projects to get Green lit. And with CoD introducing people to gaming, they'll get interested in types other games and give them a shot.

In my opinion, as well as overshadowing other, often superior games, COD is drawing in people who call themselves gamers, but never play anything except COD, and its people like that who give gamers a bad name in the eyes of the media, the "normal", etc.

Well, yeah a little bit. The thing is, COD is the 800lb gorilla in the room and nobody dares fuck with it. It's also one of the most successful online games of all time making it hard to compete with in terms of choice.

That said, they are other games that are just as good in their own way: While COD is the best in terms of Arcade FPSs, Battlefield is best at realistic FPSs, what with vehicles and buildings that will actually fall apart when you fire rockets into them, and games like GTA are best at open world sandbox games that are grounded in a sense of "reality." Then you've got Crysis and I don't think I really need to elaborate on that one.

A new online game that looks like it could have a lot of potential is Far Cry 3's multiplayer and it actually has me more excited than Black Ops 2. I've never played a Far Cry game but the multiplayer for FC3 has me hooked...for now. E3 is going to be very interesting this year that's for sure.
