Unlike in Torchwood, where such things were central to the plotz (NOT a kids' show, whoever asked), I'm not entirely sure it matters in Doctor Who.

Sure, we've had Rose Tyler (and, going back a bit, Sarah Jane), but we've also had several Jack-related incidents. There's evidence for both sides of the fence, and fans will read it how they like.

I'm just not convinced human sexuality can even be applied to a Time Lord.

He's incredibly gay.

In the old sense of the word of course. He's always so cheerful and full of life.

Do you even understand what the Doctor is?
the doctor is a Time Lord who has shown the capacity to love a human, why the hell should he have to love one of an opposite gender?

Is Torchwood considered a family/kids show? (Neither is considered a kids show over here, so I really can't tell.)
No, Torchwood is a teen/adult show, though in a lot of respects it is quite similar to Dr. Who, which is a family show for everyone (well actually about 5-10+, depending alot on how easily your child gets scared).

OT: Nope, he's had a lot of pseudo-relationships over the years with women, though honestly I don't think he's that interested in anyone.

30 years of canon. He's got kids. He's got grandkids. Hell at this point he's probably got great grandkids as his granddaughter Susan got dropped of in 2300ish and hooked up with a revolutionary.

The thing is, rather than have the doctor dashing through time screwing everything that moved, he was always more interested in the adventure and the science. Conversely he's not exactly been mincing about time and space either. He's around a millenia old. One would assume that at some point the libido would fade a tad. So no. He's not gay. He just doesn't put that high of a priority on physical intimacy. Closest he got was with an aztec chick over 500 years ago. Sex just never seemed to be a priority. With any of the time lords for that matter.

Not sure if trolling or just very stupid.

We're talking this current doctor, right? I say wait to see if he resists Captain Jack Harkness again - if he ever makes a re-appearance that is. If he does, he's straighter than straight.
haha, very well put, i hope jack comes back ^_^

The bbc are pretty easy going with homosexuality. In fact, Matt Smith (actor of the Dr) did a different one-off show a little while ago (i forget the title) and i believe his character in that was gay.

*spoilers*

It was only a minor thing, but in the latest episode (with the memory erasing aliens) the agent was revealed to be gay.

Considering they never make much of the Dr's romantic relationships with anyone, only hinting at them having happened already, i dont think that, gay or straight, they'll make too much of it either way anyway.

That said, in this series its been heavily hinted that River and the Dr become romantically involved at a later (or earlier, from River's point of view) date.

Hypothetically, i think a gay Dr would be fine, hell more than fine, it would be downright interesting. Television could do with a few more strong, non stereotypical homosexual characters, and i would be extremely proud of the bbc if they took that step. I doubt they actually will, for fear of upsetting "hardcore" fans obsessed with continuity, but still, itd be cool

About 5 minutes later (or earlier) in the same episode:

Nixon: "so this one you want to marry... black?"

American agent man: "Yes he is."

I would also hope that the BBC would be wise enough to know that there's nothing wrong about showing kids that gay people exist (which, evidently, they are wise enough to know).

OT: Don't think it really interests him that much, although he did want to bang Billie Piper. Not that I can blame him after seeing Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

The doctor is simply too cool for this time, so of course his mannerism may seem to "uncouth" and "gay" to you.

a really hope you're talking about yourself there, because otherwise that's just pretty rude. and i'm not suggesting the doctor just suddenly start doing it with someone on screen, it's just a question of which way we think the doctor would go, goven the choice

Everyone knows that the Doctor is bi. He just doesn't care about humans enough to screw any of them. Except Rose Tyler, but really, who doesn't want that? And Jack. And River.

The general hierarchy is:

Doctor Who - Family show
- Torchwood - adult-orientated spin-off
- The Sarah Jane Adventures - kid-oriented spin-off ( a fact that i09 seem oblivious to, which is amusing)
- K-9 - Aussie-oriented spin-off.

On-topic:

We don't even know if Time Lords conform to human ideas of sexuality. Besides, there's plenty evidence that The Doctor (well, Nine and Ten) at the very least were into women, namely Rose. Old Who wasn't really allowed to do much with the Doctor's sexuality and it was forbidden for him to touch female companions at all from Five through Seven. The TV movie brought some romance into it and then Ten went whole hog with being in love with a 20 year old human, which at over 1000 (shut up, he's not 909!) is weird but eh.

Eleven's just...weird. It's probably just him being really weirded out by River's affection since he seems completely unsure how to deal with women in this incarnation.

I really think this doctor has the best personality.
Don't get me wrong 10 was fun and made for great TV.

Yep 11th doc is best doc. Well atleast the the first few episodes as well as the end of the most recent season lead me to think.

OT; Please learn to make unbiased polls thank you.

Doctor Who is considered Family viewing/all ages, Sarah Jane Adventures is aimed at kids exclusivly and Torchwood is aimed at adults exclusivly.

I've always thought of the Doctor as either Asexual or completely Narcissistic. Because he's now the last Time Lord there's no-one of his own race of either gender for him to be interested so he's either just not interested in sex at all, or he's too much in love with himself to think about loving others.

Matt Smith is awesome, no longer the whiny ponce he was before (the 10th).
