Maybe it's just me but it seems that companies in the gaming industry are getting fairly pushy, with majority of the efforts focused on Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. The first major one was the president of Activision against Sony, then Tecmo-Koei's president also against Sony, and now there's Gamestop pushing for a price drop not only on the PS3, but also the Wii.

Is this a new trend or has the industry been the same, but quieter, for years.

You're going to have to explain what you mean by "pushy", since it sounds like you've got the standard industry sniping that goes on when one company tries to get too dictatorial toward its corporate partners.

What he said, and that stuff's been going on since forever.

It's no different than any other market. It's just that games are much more mainstream than they used to be so we are hearing about it more.

I think people should fuck off in telling SONY to drop the price. I saved up my money and bought a PS3, sure it was expensive but it's not as if SONY is secretly producing PS3 for 10 bucks and then selling them at super high profit margins. It's their fucking product let them do as the please, you know since it [i/]theirs[/i]. So yes I do think the other companies are overstepping their boundaries.

OK, what I mean is that cetain companies,Activision for example, are trying to force action from the console makers, a PS3 price drop, by "pushing" an effect if their demand is not met, Activision drops all PS3 support. The Gamestop report won't do much because we all know they won't stop selling systems, but I guess I need to ask is the industry getting pushier than in the past.

Activision is a bad example, as their PR is almost as bad as Sonys. Actually I take that back Activision has pretty much taken the cake as of late. (see Btrual Legend as well).

From what I read about this it seems that Activision and Tecmo-Koei have valid reasons why they want Sony to drop the price of the PS3. I have to agree with Machines Are Us, I've heard to publishers making demands but only like 1-2 years later. Would it really be such a bad thing though if the PS3 price was dropped by $50-$100 to make it accessible to those that may not be able to justify buying one at its current price? It could be benefecial for both the publishers/developers and Sony to do this. Then again retailers could offer the console on sale for 10%-20% too.

i wouldn't say that they're getting 'pushy', i mean, demanding price cuts happens all the time in business.

No idea really. I don't pay attention to much in the gaming world. It always amazes me to see that any one person knows every buy, trade, sell, and dealing of every gaming company in real time. Where the hell do you people find the time?

I agree so very much. Even if they dropped the price, people wouldn't buy it more.

The thing I don't get, especially after the Demi God tom foolery, is how the heck did gamestop suddenly start acting like a publisher and give developers deadlines? their a games retail store, nothing more I just can't figure out how they have so much clout for a money grabbing little enterprise, I'm almost tempted to go back to my old ways and order my games through Amazon again.

The PS3 cost A LOT to manufacture. If Sony dropped the price, they would lose money. And I doubt they are going to lose money over Activision. But the industry has always been like this, just we hear about it more, because the majority of Americans play games.
