What do you guys think, maybe youd like to mention some apps that you feel justifys the purchase or whatever.

Holy longwinded exclamation! Those things are $850 AUS!?! No. They are not worth the price. This has made me quite curious? How much to Americans pay?

Let's see: $859 (AUS iPhone 4 retail)=$939 USD At time of posting. *checks American site for price for the same model* $199 for an iPhone 4 retail in the US! Ugh, yeah no. Not at all worth it.

Ugh, no. You should have bought yourself something that isn't as restricted or flawed. For the price, you could have gotten a new blackberry or something with Android and even then you would have had change left over.

Basically, an iPhone is years behind most smart phones these days and you've been suckered in by Apple's marketing.

I don't see why you bought it in Australia. Everything is so ridiculously overpriced it isn't funny. Oh my god is it not funny.

Next time you want to buy well, anything that isn't perishable, look for it online.

I have an iphone, I am not very good with technology so I like the iphone because it is easy to use. I think that the android is a much better buy though.

I love my iphone because messaging is so easy but apart from that it is nothing special. I think you are paying more for the convenience of being able to use the internet whenever you want more than anything else. But is some places and at certain times of the day the service can be so slow that it is not really worth.

I fell out of love with my iphone a bit because i dropped it down the toilet then had to shell out some cash for out-of-warrenty repairs.

But right now, I think I will go back to a more traditional phone when this contract is up. Smart phones are okay in all but sometimes it is nice just to have a more simple life.

Well, unless the economy is very bad in Australia, then I suppose the answer is no.

I got one for free. It was worth it.

Would I have paid $800.00 for it? No.

Would I have paid $200.00 for it. No.

I'd have bought a Nokia for like $99.00 and saved my self the difference for something better, like 3 months of credit.

If you're getting a phone for free with a plan, it's a brilliant phone, but it's way too fucking expensive to buy out right.

What model did you buy?

I've never thought all that much about the iPhone, and while I consider the fourth generation iPhone to be significantly superior to the earlier models, it's still limited in far too many senses to make it a brilliant smartphone.
I'm assuming that he bought it without a plan. In the US, they should be around that same price without a plan, too. With a plan, phones are A LOT cheaper.

I don't like the way phones work at all... I don't think that their actual price can ever be justified. The full price for a current generation smartphone is always insanely high.

In general, phone companies are just terrible (in my opinion).

For example, if you threaten to leave (after your contract's up) your carrier, they may very well likely offer you some special deal so that you don't leave... a deal that isn't available to other customers. It's just unfair.

You could have bought an excellent Android phone for a fifth of that price or even less. You could have bought a top-of-the-line Android phone for around the same price in Australia, or a fair bit less if ordering from overseas.

For that price?! Of course not.

Normally, I'd just say that for teh lulz on damnyouautocorrect.com, it'd be worth it (for other people), but personally, for my purposes, androids are better value for money.

Very little is worth $850. Buy a regular phone for a tenth of the price and still be able to do all you need to, call people.

Not to me, although its smart phone capabilities, user friendliness, appealing design, and massive support for cross-platform integration (it might be a closed platform OS with no flash support, but de facto there still seem to be a lot more integration with it than is available for my Android phone, despite of the latter's greater potential) might well make it so for some.

It's undoubtedly a luxury item very few people actually have any real and specific need for, but those can be nice too.

I'll allow this picture to speak my mind:

But seriously, considering what other things are on the market atm, bad choice.

It's not that I'm against Apple (though I don't like what they do) for any irrational reasons, but I look at the current market and see better things, unless you've already bought heavily into the iOS ecosystem. If not, you were probably best looking around.

There's not really a lot iOS can do that Android can't (often for free or at least cheaper), the beauty of Android is that you're not locked into one phone, there's many to choose from which transfer your apps across should you get a new Android after another. With the iPhone, you're stuck with whatever Apple deems to be good, rather than given choice, which is what I personally am about.

Couple of Alternatives:

Samsung Galaxy SII
HTC Sensation
Nexus S
Motorola Atrix
LG Optimus 3D

Heck, with Mango out now, even Windows Phone 7 devices are a compelling offering:

HTC HD7
Samsung Omnia 7

But as with many other Apple products you pay the huge price premium for two things only:

Build quality with aluminium and glass (that honestly never inspires me with much confidence anyway)

everyone who says "Yes" owns an iPhone, an iPad, an iMac, a MacBook, etc.

everyone who says "No" does not.

laying this out as a general rule

and I answered "No". I refuse to be part of such an expensive fad where i have to pay 350 dollars EVERY FUCKING FEW MONTHS just to have the most up to date model

I'd say no but I only require my phone to call and text. I have an I-pod already for music and a laptop for internet so I don't see why I'd need an Iphone. That said, Angry Birds is a really fun game but not worth the extra 200-300 quid you'd be paying.

I have the choice of an iPhone or Android next month so thanks for this thread.

I currently have a Sony Ericson with a really good camera and I use my wife's iPod for music when I'm running.

I'm leaning towards something with a decent camera probably on Android, mostly based on what I'll use the phone for as opposed to what it's capable of. Also Android has higher geek-cred in the circles I run in and sadly that is a factor in my decision.

No, they aren't. Save that kind of money for a nice Computer (WINDOWS or MAC, I don't really care, that's for another thread)

Or you could save up to feed things. Like children. And plants.
