Like Matthew said, it can't be answered by a yes or no, since it's way too complicated. However, any debate about this is useless without mentioning the damage that women do to themselves. Fucking gossip magazines. I would argue that stuff like OK!, Glamour, Cosmo, US Weekly, etc. etc. do just as much damage to women as 15 movies do

If I bring Cheetos can I come too?

OT: I honestly can't remember the last film I saw that portrayed women in a bad light. But then again, people have different ideas of "a good light". Someone could argue that the Hunger Games portrayed women well because it had a strong, independent female protagonist (that didn't need no man. giiiiir- yeah I better stop that). Others might say that it did not do so well for women in the fact that a big part of the story was about Katniss being thrown about emotionally between two boys. I say the film did not portray anything in a good light because it was boring as hell. Yeah, the first few minutes are surprising but once your burning for a while you get bored with it.

I will accept this generous offer.

Do bears shit in the woods?

Hollywood is full of lazy tropes and stereotypes, not just for women but for pretty much everyone. Hell, if I was a dude I would be offended that I'm supposed to relate to Shia Lebouf in Transformers.

I think they need a lot more penis in modern movies. Sure it's common for a movie with a mature rating would feature a girl completely naked, but throw in a penis and you have something almost unheard of.
I agree, more dong for everyone.

EDIT: Also the title of your thread is in contrast with the question in the poll, that will confuse people.

Hollywood loves stereotyping almost as much as it loves easy money. Hollywood also has a great tendency to objectify both women and men, which I'd say is negative. I've not watched many Hollywood films lately, though, so those little observations are somewhat uninformed.

We can't have the door escaping, now can we? If that happens, we'll all be screwed.

Yes! And not just flaccid ones, either.

Who cares? If hollywood is sexist then there are women who make it happen. You know: the female actors? And if that is the case then the only ones to blame are themselves. Personally though, I couldn't give two shits.

I meet a woman and in the first place she is a person to me. Then there are two possible scenario's:

A) she acts like a normal person and I will forever view her that way.

B) she says something along the line off: I go dressed like a slut so the professor will give me better grades. At which point a click gets made in my head -> you are someone who I should have sex with once. Maybe twice. Then dump and go for someone interesting.

If you don't want to be viewed as a dumb sex object I suggest you don't don't play the role of one.

I've seen The Hole, I know how this ends.

OT: of course there is going to be some sexism in an industry as large as Hollywood. But it largely depends on which films you're working on.

The question is in the title.
But the question in the title and the question in the poll are the opposite way around! How can we tell which question people are answering? The results are meaningless!

*brain explodes*

OT: I don't think there's a problem. Not in the sorts of films I watch anyway. (Mostly action and adventure stuff.)

Ha! Realistic gender relations on screen is very rare, it must be said, never mind the relative casting frequencies of older actors, comparative to older actresses.
