Yes, but the thing is, women are often little more than scenery, and that goes beyond simply "bad stereotypes." It goes directly to the issue of sexism.
well you are speaking very broadly there...you'd have to be more specific

This can't be answered with a yes or no answer as there are so many films made per year.

Get ready for a flame war about gender roles and sexism etc in about page 3 of this thread.

see: The Bechdel Test (I guess that's sort what he is referring to).

1. It has to have at least two [named] women in it
2. Who talk to each other
3. About something besides a man

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

We can't leave the door open much longer now that "someone" has entered the thread.
*jumps inside*
Close the door or she'll talk to us about how all things are patriarchal and how the word history is demeaning to woman!

That test is mostly bull.
Terminator 1 and 2 feature a strong female lead but they still fail that test.

If you don't want to be viewed as a dumb sex object I suggest you don't don't play the role of one.
Seriously? I'm not sure it's the women who ahve chosen to make a lucrative career out of depicting women as sex objects who are complaining about women been seen as sex objects so much.
Not trying to be an ass here (seriously), but I don't quite understand what you are saying.

You're saying that some women find Hollywood movies sexist. And that those are not the same women that are making the movies?

If that's the case, then answer: well duh?

But my point is: you can't make a movie where women are treated like sex objects, if there are no women in them. Women should not be complaining to men that they are pigs. They should be mad at the women that make it possible.

Btw, I was raised to think and I firmly believe this as well, that men and women are EQUAL. When a woman is mistreated because she is a woman I will be among the first to shout: OI! Cut that shit out! On the other hand, when a woman is acting like a spoiled whore. I will also be the first to shout: you dumb spoiled whore. And I will laugh at them when they end up alone, sad and void of any meaning in their life.

And a last thing: everyone should lighten up. Men are pigs sometimes and girls are shallow sometimes. Big whoop. Everyone is so easily offended nowadays. How about this then: noone can do anything fun any more. No more religion/science/holidays/traditions/movies/games/books/art/toys/... We will all just wear curtains over our heads. Work 12 hours a day and have sex once a year in the dark with our partner in a sound proof chamber. Just to make SURE no one gets offended.

No? Good because that would suck. Sorry about the little off topic rant. But it's stuff like this that pisses me off. Everyone does something that will offend other people. If you can't shrug off those little things then prepare to have a crappy life.

I agree it's not a perfect gender equality test. But I bet that if you applied the same test to men fewer movies would fail, which accounts for something I guess...
Also according to the website T2 (pretty much) passed.

The test isn't bull, it's just wasn't designed to determine the worth of a movie, it was to point out something about Hollywood.

And it just happens to be a coincidence that the writers and directors and producers just happen to be overwhelmingly male, and that films are generally made towards a male audience?

If you expect it to take that long. I just await a certain someone who will ***** about the hyper masculinity and how everything mainstream is sexist and how we're held in scant regard because we don't know about obscure bullet hell games.

Like Matthew said, it can't be answered by a yes or no, since it's way too complicated. However, any debate about this is useless without mentioning the damage that women do to themselves. Fucking gossip magazines. I would argue that stuff like OK!, Glamour, Cosmo, US Weekly, etc. etc. do just as much damage to women as 15 movies do
I think this summarizes my feelings on the subject.

This is more about insensitivity in Hollywood in general, but this is one of the reasons that I like Peter Dinklage. If they're going to portray him as comic relief just for being a dwarf then he doesn't do the job. Even before he became a big deal and could afford to refuse roles he was doing it. It's surprising how few actors have that level of integrity.

I don't care if 99% of the population is male. That has nothing to do with my argument. If women around the world refuse to play in a movie where women are depicted as sex objects. Then I hope you will get a hard on from chuck norris in a wig. You need female actors in order to show them off as objects. Why is this so hard to understand?
